Lux power inverter work around

Featured Replies

New in the solar business and dont have a clue about electricity but learning fast. I got myself 3 Averge Battery's, two 5kva Lux power inverters and 8 Panels. Installation was done by a greencard electrician. I submitted my application for registration to the municipality for grid tied installation.  In the meantime my old Colnog prepaid meter started tripping every 30 seconds or so. It would come back after another 30 seconds...Conlog was contacted and their response was that the meter is very old and would not be able to accept the solar system. My application to the munisipality was rejected as the Inverters was not compliant to some or other governing body's list of compliant inverters. I was advised to get some sort of switch to completely stop inverters from feedback to the grid. Is there any one out here with some advice ...Please help in laymen's terms as I am an absolute noob regarding all the big terms.

Not sure whether relevant, but also have an old Conlog. My installer set the grid set point at 80W rather than the recommended 50W for Victron Multiplus because of the issue you describe.

The luxpowers SNA5KW are  off-grid inverters, not bidirectional, so if you split your db then you should not be feeding back to the grid. Does your inverter come with a CT COIL? If it has a CT coil it's bidirectional (can feed grid)

If however you just took your inverter  output and put it onto the input of the db then you could be feeding back and tripping the conlog...I've seen this approach in a few installs.

If you split your db, the conlog must sit on the nonessential side and the rest of plugs, lights, etc on the essential side, no feedback into the grid.

If you're In CT, there was a thread mentioning that all inverters must be grid tied (bidirectional) going forward.

If my understanding is wrong then please correct me..

Thanx guys, going to have a chat to my installer as I do not have a split db and that might resolve the tripping problem . Hope it helps. Still looking to get the inverters compliant

You need to specify which model of inverter as the one works without CT to prevent export.

The SNA can also export and you can set the % the moment you turn on hybrid mode. Ensure you hybrid mode is disabled.

Bottom line the SNA CAN export to the grid. It is not just like the Voltronic inverters.

Interesting! If it does not have a CT coil and it can feed non essentials, how does it stop feedback?

It does not have non essentials AFAIK. It is meant to sell to the grid. You can see where I underlined the 2 modes in red that you set it as a Hybrid for exporting to grid.

We get so used to the Sunsynk method of having both.
