Battery Fault Tracking - random voltage spike on one cell

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I have a Goodwe GW5048D-ES connected to a Panasonic LinkData PowerWork S2 6.3kwh Li-ion battery.
I've recently started to find the battery has switched off over night. After connecting the battery to my computer and logging the pack details, it seems randomly that one cell out of 14 (number 11 for what its worth) spikes in voltage (so all 14 packs will be around the 3900mv mark (as an example, its not specifically this voltage) then cell 11 spikes high enough to trigger OVP on that cell, shutting down the pack.

I had it testing today and saw this happen while the logger was running, once the battery had dropped the load cell 11 recovered back to the same voltage as the others after about 5 minutes, then when restarted it went back to working correctly.
I'm fairly new to Li-ion technology, but this seems like strange behavior. I wondered if this was even the BMS reading incorrectly perhaps.

Any ideas here, would be great to fix this somehow.

Thanks,

Matt

@_matt_ with regard to the battery shutdown that's good and you know the bms is doing its job. To resolve you can try to rebalance the pack or try to drop the charging rate when the battery hit around 90% SOC.

Thanks!

Yeah bms side of things seems functional. It does it on discharge as well as charge it seems, and only sometimes.

I’ll see if I can swap the cell over with another, and see if the fault moves to a different cell number in the bms.

Are you using self-define for the battery, I don't think the goodwe lists your battery in the selection menue?

What settings are you using?
