Some sort of problem with the display module: connector, the backlight LEDs open circuit. I don't know these FiveStars, but Aperts can run  happily without the display. The Axperts have two backlight LEDs in parallel, and it's not uncommon for one to fail. These may have two in series or just one.

If the display is the same as the Axperts', it's possible to buy a third party replacement. Fivestar should also be able to provide an exact replacement.
