February 10, 20242 yr Hi, Sorry, this is a bit "War & Peace". I just got a GoodWe SBP G2 (5000) here in Australia to allow me to export battery to the grid and also charge the battery from grid, it works, sort of... I have ten Zenaji Aeon batteries (400AH), LTO chemistry, the ten of them can easily support 380A continuous. Minimum voltage is 42.5v and maximum I use is 55v. The BMS on these is internal, no comms bus, if they detect an issue they trip their breakers. I also have MPP inverters (two paralleled 5048MG) they supply the house load and charge the batteries from solar. In addition I have a Growatt that I use for solar export only, I switch my panels to the Growatt with Latronics SATS DC switches. Confusing Frankenstein system, I know, I know but it works well. So the SBP was only installed yesterday. I'm not using the CT clamp setup that came with, I have a Victron SmartShunt that talks to ICC Solar on an RPi (via USB) and a Shelly 3EM for the CT clamp side of things. Today I tried to charge from grid at full power (SolarGo Economic Mode) and its only drawing around 3300w from the grid, so roughly 60% so I'm thinking that even though this is charging (not discharging) that the on/off grid DOD settings (which I can't set above 60%) are causing issues? Has anyone got the SBP to play nice with a self-defined battery that essentially has no BMS and no CT feedback into the SBP? I set the battery size to 400Ah, max voltage to 55v, charge/discharge 100A and SOC Protection "off". I've no idea if these settings are active and I've also got no idea how to set the battery minimum voltage, or how to tell the SBP what SOC the battery (based on voltage) is currently at, the battery shows in SolarGo as "abnormal". Essentially I want the SBP to idle and only charge or discharge (at 5000w of course) when I instruct it to (via a modbus waveshare rs485 to ethernet that isn't installed yet). I will worry about whether its going to overcharge or empty the battery (node-red will do the automation later on, it has all the data it needs through MQTT). This SBP is a confusing thing, please help. I just want the SBP to be dumb and do what its told, when I tell it. Update: bonus points if you know a way a setting on the SBP to switch it from taking its idle/standby power from the battery instead of grid, on the 3EM I can see it sipping 5-15W AC. Thanks. Richard Although I cannot help a big thanks for mentioning the SATS DC switch. I have a need for switching PV myself in a safe way. The 2 seconds transfer is also save in my mind. It times like now on stage 6 of LS it could be a handy unit to have.
February 10, 20242 yr Author You might be out of luck with Latronics, I know Latronics are ceasing production soon and the SATS might have already been discontinued...from the website: "Latronics will cease all manufacturing 30th June 2024. We will then cease all repairs, warranty, guarantees and support on 30th June 2025*" I think I might remember one of the Latronics people saying they might release the design files, it doesn't look like too complex a design and repairing them doesn't look that tricky. Maybe you could find some NOS, or Latronics might have some spares they'll sell with a reduced warranty. It's a real shame, they're a fantastic solution. Edited February 10, 20242 yr by rthorntn
