Mecer 3KVA Error 08

A colleague has a Mecer SOL-I-AX-3M 3KVA hybrid inverter connected as backup. It runs sockets and lights. There is no PV so the 2x 200Ah Vision batteries are charged by Utility.

This morning he woke up to an error alarm. He says he had no power in the night so the inverter was running on battery. However, he does not remember when power was restored. The Inverter had disconnected power output but was charging the battery bank. Error 08 (high bus voltage) was displayed.

Switching off the inverter power switch off and then on cleared the error state. However, it was observed that the Utility was supplying high voltage which peaked to 242V.

Could this be the cause of Error 08? Why was the Inverter in output disconnected state? Is it because Menu 26 (record fault code) was enabled?

I think that's fine, though I guess you're used to 220 VAC. Mine is 248 V right now (supposed to be 230 V +10% -5% or something; it's really 240 V and always on the high side). I have a 5 kVA / 4000 W model, but I doubt that makes a significant difference here.

However, I think it's unusual to see 241 VAC at the AC input, and 239 VAC at the output, when in line (bypass) mode. Is it possible for your colleague to measure AC in and AC out with the same multimeter? Maybe a relay contact has gone high resistance, and you really are losing a few volts across the relays. I don't see how that would lead to high bus voltage, however.

It won't be because of the record fault code setting. S/he might be able to get some information from WatchPower or other monitoring software, from the fault record page. [ Edit: for example, the AC input voltage when the error occurred would be interesting to know. ]

Since 242 V is presumably high for your area (I'm assuming 220 V nominal), it's possible that even higher voltage transients were seen, and these could have triggered the error. It's possibly something to live with, if power quality is low in his/her area.

The image was more in the moment, the output was 241V highest I saw it at was 242V. The last I had such  in my area was 240V and I am accustomed to 220-235V as normal. The culprit was found to be a loose neutral connection at the supply pole. Will be interesting to look at the Watchtower reading thanks for that I will pay him a visit tomorrow and see. I didnt know you could check that.

I am curious though as to why the Inverter disconnected supply and was hung on the error whilst accepting supply to charge the battery though.

Some errors are not restartable. Error 8 is restartable, but only if the error is of a very brief duration (3 clock ticks, only 60 ms). In fault mode, I believe it doesn't attempt to change modes with the normal logic. So that's why it was "hung on the error". But I would have expected it to be stuck in a special mode designed to bleed the bus voltage down, which is a mode like line mode except it runs the utility battery charger just enough to use up excess bus capacitor energy. It does however fiddle the relays, so it might disconnect the loads as a precaution; the usual protections aren't in place. So then why still charging the battery? That does seem odd, as you say. I don't have time today to look into it further.

I am also facing the same problem with my full solar circle 5Kva inverter.

Is there anyone willing to assist on how i can resolve this problem.

It trips the whole system everyday when the utility power has charged the battery to full charge

Fault code 81 is a parallel error, "Host data loss". You seem to only mention one inverter. Perhaps setting 28 is set to other than SnG? See FAQ 3 for how to change this.

The fault code puts the inverter into fault mode, where it won't use the DC-AC converter (the inverter in the inverter-charger).

Hi guys,

I'm experiencing a problem with my inverter. I'm using a 6.8KVA inverter with a 48V,5.5KWh Lithium Ion battery without solar panels. So I'm using the Utility to charge the battery. When the battery is fully charged, it raises a 08 Fault(Bus Voltage too high) and immediately disconnects the supply and the load.

May you kindly assist in resolving this fault.
