January 8, 20197 yr Welcome wehanvdw. My first thought, replace the "Old fridge and freezer 30 odd years old " with a A++ fridge as soon as you can. It pushes the usage of the system up immensely, as these older fridges are very inefficient. Daytime makes no difference, unless it is cloudy and evening use is can become the biggest Eskom expense in any event. You are aware that gas costs about the same as Eskom, and that at times one cannot get gas? Geyser on EV tubes, in my experience, are seriously efficient if certain small actions are taken like people shower mornings OR evenings, not at both times, and getting a larger geyser. You could have months of hot water with no Eskom costs if managed properly. Because solar starts with getting a very low average consumption. For example, ones usage is very high. You reduce that to 1 quarter using efficient devices, switching things off with some lifestyle changes. Then you solarize ... if the expenses incurred can generate you more savings ... it can become a tough one in the end. Or, basta that, I want solar, and go all out. :-) Also keep in mind the new regulations that are already out in CoCT ito inverters and what may or may not connect to your DB board. There are some questions about the legality of the Voltronic inverters. This is not to start another food fight in the cafeteria... just to say that if you haven't bought the machine yet, you may save some stress and potential heartache by looking at something else.
