July 10, 20242 yr Hi Guys A friend of mine wants to install a Magneto Heat pump in order to help his batteries last longer (through the night). He normally turns his geyser on for an hour and this would take roughly 3Kwh from his batteries. Now as I understand it (correct me if I am wrong) the Magneto heat pump heats a cylinder of water to 60 degrees and maintains that heat for the heat exchanger to work. It only uses 750W to keep that water at 60 degrees, BUT… If that pump runs for 4 hours in a 24h time period, he is still using 3Kwh. My opinion is that he will be putting less strain on this inverter but the same amount of power will come from his batteries. For those who have heat pumps, how often does the compressor run for?

No the error is the heat pump won't be running for 4hrs just like a 3kw geyser at 60 won't run for an hour to reheat the 40L used during a normal shower. A heat pump uses on average only 33% what an element would use. I think after 13yrs using the same heat pump I have good figures. One of my examples. On Saturday at 15h30 mine used 1.5kw (925Wh) for only 37min to heat 32 to 54° after a medium bath. A normal element would have used 3.8kwh. During May it took 34min to reheat 20°. This is for a 150L geyser. Bear in mind an element would only heat the water around the element and switch off while a heat pump the whole geyser would be at the set temperature.
