Felicity inverter communication with non-Felicity battery

Featured Replies

Hi All

I am trying to achieve something I hear is impossible, but I won't give up that easily. 😁

I am trying to establish communication between a Felicity IVEM5048 inverter and a Dyness A48100 battery.

The general consensus is that the Felicity inverters ONLY communicate with Felicity batteries, however I read somewhere within the last year that someone managed to establish communication between a Felicity inverter and some other brand battery. I cannot recall where I read it, or which protocol was used, but I'm trying to crack the code.

Can anyone recall reading this, or perhaps have the pinout for the Felicity inverter?

From what I understand, the pins needed on the inverter are pins 5 & 6 for Rs485B & Rs485A respectively.

On the battery side the pins are pin 1 & 3 for Rs485B & Rs485A respectively, also the dip switch set to 0100.

I have tried this configuration without success. I tried swapping the wires also without success.

For now I am using user defined parameters for charge and float voltages.

Does anyone have any suggestions for communication?

Just as a follow up, I contacted Felicity in China and they sent me the latest firmware (1307) which includes a PYL option allowing communication with certain batteries using the Pylontech RS485 protocol.

I made the cable using pins 5,6 on the inverter side to pins 2,1 on the battery side and still no luck. I tried several address configurations like 0100, 0010, 0110, 1010 without success.

That is the guide for comms from different brand Inverter with Felicity Batteries.
The question was how to set up comms between a Felicity Inverter and different brands of Batteries.

Thanks for the note.

I'll try to get the Felicity inverter connected with different brands of batteries whenever I can, for everyone's benefit.

Good day. @Gandalf @zsde

I contacted a Felicity employee regarding connecting the Felicity power inverter to other types of batteries. Their response regarding the connection method was:

1. Determine the inverter model and software version.

If the software version is correct, Felicity IVEM5048_V1214_V1307_1201.

2. Enable PYL mode in the software.

3. If it's a CAN input:

7-8 from the inverter terminal

7-8 from the battery terminal

4. If it's an RS485 input:

5-6 from the inverter terminal

1-2 from the battery terminal

For a Dyness PowerBrick 280A51.2 battery

Attached is a picture of the connection method for a Dyness PowerBrick 280A51.2 battery.

The connection method is worth a try.

I hope I've provided the information. I await your feedback.

I will update you if any.

Thanks @kafaa group I will make a new cable and try this tomorrow.

Thanks for the quote.

Please note the battery inputs according to your model.

In addition to the A48100 battery with DIP switch, they will send me a file linking Felicity batteries to other inverters, depending on the model and brand, and I will attach it for you.

I look forward to resolving your issue.

@Gandalf Sorry for this error in transmitting the information😌.

It has been corrected in the post. Please pay attention.

This is the correction.

This was the very first connection I tried. Pins 5,6 of inverter to pins 1,2 of battery using RS485. It gives me Error 80 (No communication)

I tried various dip switch settings on the battery, none of them established communication.

Sorry, I'm trying to find a solution to the problem and share it as a challenge.

I'll try to contact them again, hoping to find some useful information.

I know there's a problem connecting the Felicity inverter to the rest of the batteries.

This has been my experience thus far. However with the firmware 1307 which includes the PYL setting, I hoped it would work. I have been in contact with Felicity in China who suggested the 5,6 to 1,2 cable for communication via RS485. They said that CAN would not work

I think the issue lies with the settings of the Dyness battery dip switches. I have tried the four different settings listed in the manual namely: 0010, 0100, 0110 & 1010.

Maybe I need to do a firmware update on the battery, but I don’t know where to get the COM cable (6 pin to serial) locally. I saw the cable is available online for £100, but that is more money than I am willing to spend on a possible solution that may not even work at all.

Have you tried battery dip switches? 0000or 1000

Even if this option is not available in the user manual.

I just tried these right now, no communication.

I also tried 1001 without success.

I will find out from Felicity if there will be a 1308 firmware. 😁

My friend, I hope you solve the problem. I know it's become a challenge.

I don't know why Felicity doesn't pay enough attention to pairing its inverters with batteries of different brands.
