One grid with multiple providers selling over that grid. I have a vision of a two tier system. Generation, not transmission has been the problem. So there are reliable (or more reliable) generators selling at a higher price to those who will pay a premium for reliability. But how does that work though? Smart meters so the guys who don't pay for the better service get turned off? Why not bridge a meter? The scenario of multiple providers on one grid works if we trust that generation is reliable. A nice possibility, again I'm thinking of the UK, is that folks do minded can sign up with a provider that sells only energy derived from renewable sources.

This is applicable to both Eskom Generation and distribution (including municipalities). Pay or suffer was the old version of FAFO. No-one wanted to pay the price for best practice, now we all suffer.
