Battery upgrade

Featured Replies

Hey everyone. I currently have a 2 solar panel, 3.5 KV FiveStar hybrid Inverter connected to 2 x 120ah gel batteries but they are starting to degrade. I want to replace them with 2 x 200ah gel batteries (getting them at a very good price and I know I should buy a Lithium). My question is, should I need to change any settings on the inverter or can I just swap the batteries out. They are all 12V gels. Thanks.

If the lower capacity 120Ah worked well then you could keep the settings. Alway try the lowest charge current that works for you. Around 15% of Ah is a good starting point to allow a longish life.

With lithium so much cheaper now they remain the 1st choice as you know.

I got my GEL batteries for 1.1k each and 10 of them. 10 was because I wanted to reduce the instantenous draw from the batteries (staying within the 25A limit allows me to run 3kW from the batteries) and I rarely use more than 20% of the battery by the morning. Lowest it has been is 65% so I will easily get some 4 to 5 years out of my batteries.

If I were you though, spend the 7k and get yourself a 100ah lithium battery. Its almost the same capacity if drained to 80% as the 2x200ah LA batteries.
