Loading Infinisolar firmware on a Axpert inverter.

Coulomb my smart friend, is there a way to load Infinisolar firmaware on an Axpert (axpert 5k mkII) inverter, the hardware is identical, I even swap the comm boards and works perfectly. The goal is to parallel them moreover to gridfeed which the axpert firmware doesn't allow.

It looks identical perhaps. But is the transformer turns ratio the same? Do the various sensors use the exact same scale? Does the EEPROM layout match enough to be useful? Is the DSP chip the same? I suspect that the Infinis might use floating point instructions, meaning that a '2809 DSP would just crash.

It's possible that it might work, but I think it would be very risky, and I don't recommend it. Certainly it would require using an Axpert reflash tool with an Infini hex file, and you may need to rename the hex file. To go back again, assuming that it doesn't immediately brick the inverter, you'd have to di the opposite; use an Infini reflash tool with a suitable Axpert hex file again renaming as needed. Immediately after each reflash, you would need to run a command to reset the settings to factory. Even then, most if not all of the calibrations could be wrong, so many of the measurements could be inaccurate.

Finally, in most jurustrictions, running the inverter would be illegal, as the inverter would be capable of exporting non-trivial power to the grid, and the model would not be type approved and registered (I think).

There are just so many ways that this could go wrong.

Thank you so much for the response. Without specifically checking those item, all the components look identical to the T. Anyway, I have a few Axpert com boards spare as I've swopped them out with Infinis, so I'm very happy to risk one. I'm also aware of the legal aspect thanks. I can't remember what the firmware filenames was that I used, I can check up on that but if it would suffice, the Infinis run on "U1 52 29" and Axperts on "U1 71 82" I find those work best for me. I have these firmware flash files, but how do I rename the Hex file. And I could run the inverters on battery to reset/copy values from my working ones if possible or how do I reset, can I use the monitoring software to factory reset?

Just use your computer's file explorer. On Windows, you single click on the file name below a file's icon and the name will highlight, and you can edit it. Just click away from the name to confirm the change.

As to what name to change it to, use the same file extension (part after the final period/dot) as the infini file names have. Actually, I have both of these in my collection, and they are both called "dsp.hex" (without the quotes). So there is actually no need to rename.

However, that means that the old reflash tool will be looking for dsp.hex in the same folder (directory) as the reflash tool itself (the .exe file). So make a copy of an Axpert reflash folder, rename the dsp.hex to something like dsp_axpert.hex (or simply delete it), and copy the dsp.hex from a Infini reflash folder to that new folder. Go to that new folder, and run the reflash tool from there. That should cause the Axpert reflash tool to read the infini dsp.hex file. Assuming that works, the control board is now running Infini firmware, so any later firmware updates should be done with an Infini reflash tool.

Yes, use monitoring software to perform a "factory reset" of most of the parameters.

Do let us know how it goes. I suspect that you may run into problems with calibration of measurements, and possibly with serial numbers, and other things related to the EEPROM contents.

Hi, I learnt you just need to copy the Reflash.exe file from the Axpert Firmware(in this case) to the Infini folder and run it.

It reflashes perfectly fine and when it finishes, the inverter constantly beep with error 99 and wont operate. I could change settings which I've done using the same monitoring software that works with the Infinisolar, or directly on the inverter(which looked axactly like the Infini's ones), but stays in error mode. I've swopped the inverter display panels (as the Infini's and Axperts are different) but not change. Also tried another Infini FW (which I could load normally) but same thing happens. I reloaded the Axpert FW with no problem and everything is as it was. Before changing back (while it had infini FW on the Axpert inverter), for what it's worth, I did notice the battery symbol on the inverter displayed "Li" even if I changed the battery type.

Is there sofware I could use to program/patch the Axpert FW to allow it to grid-feed?

Error 99 means no bootloader. The firmware checks for a magic number at a specific address in the bootloader. The address may differ among various models.

Some models do have a flag for grid-feed in the EEPROM settings. Use Communication Tool to verify/change it:

QFLAG command to check whether the flag is there. Search for a lowercase "d" letter in its output. If it appears after "E", the flag is enabled. If it appears after "D", it's disabled.

PEd to enable solar feed to grid.

PDd to disable solar feed to grid.
