Hi All. Please can you help me. I am trying to load new firmware on a client's Axpert inverters. I get a error "can not open serial port". I loaded the same firmware on other machines without any issues, so it is not the software, cables or usb to serial converter. It is only on these 3 machines. Has anyone encountered such a issue.

Thanks and regards Jay

If you are using different computers for the upload, e.g. using the client's machine, it might just be the serial port for the USB to serial adapter, and you are not choosing the right one. On some computers, some serial ports end up as COM10 or higher, and the reflash tool doesn't cope with that.

But if you're using your own laptop, that can't be the problem.

Is it possible that these three inverters are different models? For example, the 64 V models have a different command to initiate reflashing, and the Reflash Tool is slightly different, sending a different command. I don't know whether it will just sit there and do nothing, or if you get the "can't open serial port" error in this case. When this happens, you have been saved from reflashing with the wrong firmware, and all the hassles associated with that.

What existing firmware do these three inverters run, and what are you trying to update to?

Hi. These are the 64 volt machines. Do you perhaps know where I can find the reflash tool

You must always use the reflash tool that comes in the zip or RAR file with the firmware. The 64 V firmware is different to the 58.4 V firmware. I think it's important not to mix them up.

So the problem is finding the right firmware update file; the correct reflash tool will always be in there.

What exact model are the 64 V inverters that you want to update? Alternatively, what is the existing firmware version in those machines?
