Posted January 31, 20205 yr Hi. I have a 2000w Trail Boss inverter and have been using it with no problems connected to a 12V 105AH battery. Just to run a light or two and the router during load shedding. I upgraded my batteries to 2x 218AH Li batteries. Then I hooked the cable that is a second power source to the house DB (via a selector switch) onto the inverter and slowly brought up the load. Just lights and a fridge and the garage doors and all was well. Then suddenly the power went off. I estimate that I was no more than 1000W load at the time. Now the inverter has a ticking sound and if I plug just single light bulb in the light flickers in time with the tick - 2 or 3 times a second. Any ideas of what has gone wrong here? Many thanks for any advice.
January 31, 20205 yr How are your two new batteries connected? Series or parallel? What voltage are the Li batteries putting out?
January 31, 20205 yr Also, how are you charging the Li batteries? They have different charging voltages to lead acid.
January 31, 20205 yr Author Batteries are in parallel and I charge with a 12V 30A Victron charger from the mains when Eskom power is on. Of course I disconnect that when I switch over to battery power on the DB
January 31, 20205 yr Can you check the battery voltage with a multimeter? At rest and under load. Which model charger is it and what charging voltages are set on it?
February 2, 20205 yr Hi Haig, I have exactly the same issue. Same inverter as yours but connected to 2x105's in parallel. Also the same victron charger. Inverter worked for a couple of days and then started the ticking story as well. I didn't change anything or put any big load on either.
March 16, 20232 yr Did anyone manage to resolve the above issue with their inverter? I have same inverter and same issue.
