  1. That's gold right there GF. thanks a ton. I thought about it and spoke to some other guys as well. Batteries: Seems like they all say to keep the pylon-tech batteries, so perhaps I'll start there. and yes look to add another one perhaps soon. i didn't know they are 3.5kwh so x 2 = 7 should be okay for now. Inverter: I'm pretty sure I can manage a 5kw inverter. But that's just it. manage. 2x would be better though. and then yes there is the consideration of it being a new house with new consumption. its got an electric geyser, thank God its gas cooking. but the geyser alone needs special planning i.e. add panels just for that and smart timer atleast. Panels: I read up on the growatt 500 es pro inverter and its mppt rating. its only got one 6000w max, 18A, 430v, so yes I'd have to go for a slightly higher amp panel albeit fewer for now. methinks 6-8x 550/600w panels. i think this has to happen regardless. then if I do outgrow etc, that string I can re-use in my next upgrade. all facing north I can do. there is some space north west as well for planning next. seems like also setting up the growatt will be a learning curve. I'll pick up some names and numbers off this forum as well to help me as well. you guys are great! Thanks.
  2. Going to try to keep this brief. Moving into a new house that has a growatt and 2x pylontech 3kwh batteries. no solar. Having just did a full 5kw solar setup at my current home with luxpower sna5000, svolt 5wh rack mount battery and 8x 450w panels, I'm comfortable with the lux kit, and I'll probably go with that at the new place as well as pricing and value has won me over. I'll probably go for either : a. 2x lux sna5000, 2x 5wh batteries ( prob svolt or China), and 12x550w panels or b. 1x lun sna6000, 1x10kwh hina, and 12x550w panels. any other option I am foregoing? Should I keep the growatt and pylontech kit and just add panels at the new place? I might have a buyer for it, but if it makes more sense then I'll keep it and add panels then. Aim is to keep spend down, on both new setup and electricity bill going forward. currently I use barely 2kwh of eskom per day which is awesome ( geyser is solar, cooking is gas). but also not to have to spend more to redo things etc. do it sufficiently once. What are you opinions guys?
  3. So I've searched here for a while, and read. I've even gone back and read some of the other stuff I've asked and I just get more confused! Please help [Anglo-Saxon expletive removed by Mods] my mind! I have some noob inverter setup requirement questions: 1. Can I set the Luxpower SNA inverter to run on SBU settings for certain times (most of the day..say 8 am-6 pm) and then to SUB at a certain condition/event - not at a regular time every day? (for example when the battery levels drop to say 30% to save some for load shedding/evening) Say if at 4 pm I want to put my geyser on: and the PV is at say 2000w, and I dont want to use my battery but I want to use PV with Grid at this time. Basically, save my fully charged battery for nighttime or nighttime load-shedding. 2. When there is no grid or when there is load shedding, I want to use solar first then the battery. What setting is this?..SBU? Can I set it to then run like this until my battery's safest low voltage point? Does this mean it will blend away at SBU until my battery reaches 30%? 3. Can I get the battery to charge always from PV only ( no using any grid to blend/charge the battery), and then to charge from the grid only where I must be able to manually set it when there is no solar available? like at night it must not charge from the grid at all, actually, it must not charge from anything once the solar is gone UNLESS I can manually set it to. I may want to use the manual method on cloudy/rainy days etc. 4. I have a gas stove and evac tubes solar geyser. I only switch on the 3kw element if the sun doesn't get the water to say 55 degrees by 5 pm. ( this only happens in winter months). my base load is around 400w. maid/ironing/washing machine/vacuum cleaner/kettle bumps it up to around 3kw at different times in the day. my pool pump is 750w so I want to run that say 12 pm-4 pm off solar once the maid is done with her power abuse. the question is: will a Luxpower SNA, a Svolt 5kw battery, and 8x500w panels work for me with some people management and time mgt alone? -No requirement to back feed to the grid. -I'll get a lower-watt geyser element as well to help the solar evac tube setup later on towards winter.   4. ok it seems i'm not the only one who experienced this too. Same story. 1200 mecer, with LA battery worked well for over 2 years. Plugged in a brand new hubble s120 last month, and then last week, there goes the inverter! it wud not charge and then was doing some snap crackle and pop. RIP. I'm getting a IVR1200 MPPT today. I hope this pairing works better this IVR1200 MPPT with the Hubble s120. Are there any specific settings I should be aware of? is it plug and play like my old mecer 1200? am i less likely to have the above issues as well with this new setup? Thanks guys. Ant
  5. Interesting guys. I'm in a slightly different boat. NO AC no PV nothing connected. Just battery. it never turns off. even after it beeps and tries to turn itself off when the battery passes the (i'm not sure) mecer 1200va auto switch off at 10.5V of whatever the setting is..yea...beeps till it clicks as if its going off, then a few moments later it clicks and comes back on again ..and then does this cycylically.. Just wont go fully off!

  7. Hello there, I wonder if someone can help please. I bought this exactly 2 years ago from geewizz: https://www.geewiz.co.za/mecer-long-run-ups-inverter-trolley/5361-1200va-mecer-inverter-100ah-battery-4-hour-battery-life-kit-720w.html the LA battery died a few weeks back so I got a hubble s120 replacement. When I was trying to swap over the batteries, I unplugged the inverter from its AC supply, and then pressed the button to turn if off. It didnt want to go off! at this time it is still connected to its ailing LA battery. with no load. so I tried holoding the button down a few seconds, and still it would not go off. Sometimes it would go off for a second or 2 but then turn back on after that! I got tired, and proceeded to disconnect the LA battery which then forced it to go off. Put the new hubble on, and its still doing the same thing. It wont swtich off! Basically it still works in allother aspects, but just that it wont turn off! Now I just want to know if I can keep using this inverter? I mean if it runs down my new hubble s120 and wont switch the inverter off, will the bms inside the hubble protect it from dropping too low? Also: Should I get the current inverter repaired (where do i take it in?), or just buy a new one? I see the replacement is about 3k for the one with the built in mppt. I dont need anything else really. anyone else experience this? Thanks in advance, P.

I think the sunsynk+pv+battery is the ultimate starter pack. but i'm not overlooking what buyeye is saying here. its actually quiet intriguing. i mean how many people have the moola to get rolling out the gates with the ultimate starter pack above?I mean lets put figures to it. kit only: Ultimate starter pack = R60k ( 20+20+20) = xkwh per day? Can someone confirm? for 20k should be getting 10x350w panels=3,5kwhx5 solar hours/day = 17.5kwh? Sure there is battery backup there as well, but assume for now its not there. so in actual fact R40k. buyeye, how much did your growatt es solar grid tied setup cost?12k+20k panels for same 17.5kwh per day. 32k sounds like a more palatable starter pack then, right... right?
  10. so battery first, before panels? thats interesting. I dont have a need for backup power immediately ( i got a mecer trolley thingie for loadshedding) and it works ok for now. whats the pro's and cons of battery first then panels? I was thinking panels then battery...
  11. amazing reply there buddy! sometimes, some of us may even just stop by getting some PV in for daytime loads. which wil be the best/cheapest route down that road? the sunsynk is excellent, but i'm pretty sure I may be able to get away with a lesser inverter for daytime PV only?
  12. Like many, I've prowled and read and learnt on this forum. I believe its time for my first post after all that time. Its time for me to start investing money now. I know that someone here surely has done this type of comparison before, and I'm actually quiet surprised it is not brought up more often here. Like many wanted to start going solar, what inverter allows for the best investment upfront? buy and axpert, then a growatt, or a off grid, then a grid tied, or just buy a sunsynk hybrid? how does it blend? or does it switch to utility when it cant provide enough PV? Does grid tied mean blend actively or switch completely to Utlilty? how much does a typical installation cost if I buy everything? including the CoC? What about passthrough? the general accepted average household consumption is said to be 30kwh/day. How does that effect the passthrough quantities? why is there a discussion even about hybrid and true hybrid? what then, should be the upgrade path from someone starting this path, from day 1? Can batteries be added later? Sure everyone says lithium, but is there no case for the other techs? and what are those cases? and ultimately, what are some of the cost/payback calcs that you guys have been playing with? what other critical considerations did i miss in the below table? Model solar battery utility how does it blend, or does it just switch? Grid tied? passthrough is it true hybrid? cost growatt kodak axpert sunsynk Thanking the members of this excellent forum in advance for their answers here! Pyro.
