Hi. Anyone has any experience with this new type of barge board from Marley. I recently bought some to replace a fibre cement one that blew off in a heavy storm. My understanding was that this is some sort of wood plastic composite but on arrival it looks like its 90% plastic. A bad move in hindsight as I want to install in in a place that gets sun most of the day and I doubt plastic will hold the test of time. The installation guidelines calls for pre-drilling a 32 mm hole and using a 32mm washer to allow for expansion and contraction and movement. This hole size seems a bit large to me as the roofing nails and screws that would be used are usually between 3.5 and 7mm. Any advice or guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks. I posted this in 2022. I was looking for a replacement for the lead acid battery which this one is as well. These are not meant for repeated charging and discharging. I bought the lithium ion battery version of the same thing since then.

I am planning for an installation of a a solar system. I have a garage with ample space and would rather it be installed there than in the house. My garage is connected to the main electricity supply and has its own DB. Does the inverter and batteries have to be near the main DB? Can they connect the wiring to the garage without having to install additional cabling from the house to garage?

Thanks. I solved the issue. Turns out the battery breaker had tripped due to a possible surge. I put it back up and everything is fine again

I have one of these trolley inverters bought from takelot almost 2 years ago. It has not skipped a beat in this time however last week there was a power dip and power returned immediately. The inverter started sounding an alarm continously with all lights flashing. Does anyone know what the issue might be and how to reset if possible? I dont think this thing has broken all of a sudden and would rather not send it in for a warranty claim. It feels as though there might have been a surge and it went into some kind of safety mode. Thanks for the detailed response. I am on a post-paid account and I have taken into account winter and extra heaters etc being used by comparing it to consumption over the winter period over the last few years. I have also tested it on a 24-hour basis with no use of heaters or anything out of the ordinary and the consumption shows as 21kwH. It also was not unusually cold where the geyser element would be working overtime to keep the water hot. The increase is not 3 kwh but more like 6-7 more for the day. This is about a 40-50% increase in daily consumption. The high reading started suddenly after the meter was installed. It would be a coincidence that something suddenly is consuming more electricity in the house at the same time the meter was installed. None of the appliances have changed and if this were the case it would have to be an appliance that is constantly plugged in that suddenly is drawing more power. Electricity doesn't leak out like the water leak you pointed out in the example. However, your point is noted. This is an old house with good wiring. I have taken into account whether the reading is actual or estimated reading as well. It was an estimate for the first two months, but the last 2 bills were actual readings showing the entire usage over time from the time the meter was installed.

City power installed a new electricity meter in March this year. It is a hexing HXE 130 with gprs/gsm module. They did this quite sneakily even though there was people at home at the time they didn't inform anyone and I happened to get home and saw them in the process of removing the meter. When they said this new meter is better and has two way comms I knew this was the start of trouble as it would be a way for them to throttle your electricity remotely. My average consumption per day used to vary between 13.5kwh most of the year and 17.7 kwh per day in the winter. The last 3 months readings on this new meter average about 21kwh usage per day. This is around a 40% increase after the meter was installed. I have gas stove and solar lights outside for the night. Nothing has changed over the last 3 years and we still have the same geyser and appliances. I have lived in this house for 7 years and the electricity usage has been the same. It has never been over 20kwh for a single month. How do I proceed to report this issue and get the meter tested/replaced. I tested my usage over 24 hours with no heaters being used and very little tv. It still came to 21kwH. This increase in electricity reading has pushed my bill up and I am now entering step 2 of the billing scale. Any advice would be appreciated. I am so frustrated with this.

The Blue Nova also costs 3 times as much as the Gizzu battery that the question was raised on. It obviously can handle the high amperage draw of the D5 gate motor which a lot of lower end 7-8ah Lithium/ Life P04 are unable to handle. As mentioned a very heavy gate that's not moving smoothly can also cause an additional strain on the battery.

The problem is that most gate motors like centurion D5 draw high amps initially and most Life P04 batteries cannot handle the high current draw. I have the Vestwoods 7ah Life PO4 which can discharge at 2c and allows a max of 14Amp draw in short burst. I have used it for few months and have noticed an issue now and then where it also just gets stuck. My issue is that I have a huge and heavy gate. Also my track does not run smoothly. When the motor struggles to move the gate it causes high amp draw on the battery and the built-in battery management system shuts down the battery. Most of the lithium gate motor batteries I have seen have specific warning that it cannot be used on centurion D5/D10 gate motor. See the warning below from Geewiz for the securiprod battery. Have a careful look at your motor and how many amps it needs and the condition if your gate. Do you require a certificate of compliance when converting an existing geyser to solar. I see some installers are offering it but most don't. Came across the link below to the current legislation stating As of 2014, all plumbers doing solar hot water installations, under the new Section 9 of SANS 10106: 2014, must issue of a certificate of compliance (COC). Sorry to resurrect an old thread. I recently got a quote from these guys and see only positive reviews on hellopeter. Has anyone else used them recently and can comment on their service.

I been checking for some quotes on getting this installed on my 150l geyser. Just a word of warning for other people looking there are many fly by night guys doing these conversions at the moment and trying to make a quick buck. I contacted one of the companies yesterday advertising on FB. The company specializes in garage door spares so when I questioned them about what their actually experience is with solar water heater they said they have partnered with installer with over 20 years experience. Turns out the partner is just a private plumber. The system quoted on was kwikot. The installer then says he doesnt actually install kwikot but if the customer wants kwikot they the cost will be more. The system he is installing has solar controlled pump that runs all the time. If I am going on holiday I need to go in the ceiling to switch off the pump. Guy talks a big talk but red flags were going off in my head after that. Why would the pump need to run all the time? Shouldn't it be controlled to only circulate through the collector when the temp in the geyser drops below a certain temp? As much as I am quite hands on with DIY I don't look forward to ever going in the ceiling. In this day and age surely the pump can be controlled remotely so I dont have to go in the ceiling to switch it off each time I go away and again go back in the ceiling when I return to switch it on again. 🤣 This guy also assured me a 15 tube setup will be perfectly fine for winter.

Which one do you have in your D5 gate motor is it the Vestwoods one?
