  1. Hi all, I've had an extra 5 "Q cells" panels installed today and noticed they look different from my other 14 Q Cells. Installer confirms his supplier had different qcells panels available and not the same as my existing 14. I noticed that the label underneath the new panel reads QCELL and not QCELLS. My old 14 panels are all qcells. How do I check whether the new panels are counterfeit and not proper qcells. For that matter, how do I check whether my existing 14 panels are genuine. The spelling error on the new "Q Cell" has me naturally concerned. The new panel's model name is DUO ML-G10 460 but I can't find a 460 watt Qcells panel on their website. The old panel's model name is Q DUO ML-G10 460 and, for what its worth, I also can't find this specific panel on their website.

  3. Hi all, My current setup is 2 x 5kw Sunsynk (in paralell) with 4 x Dyness 4.8kw batteries. These are powered by two arrays of 7 x 460w Q cell 460 watt panels (14 panels in total in a North facing and North East facing setup). During Feb and March (when the panels were installed) they produced around 5500 watts easily. I've noticed that I struggle to get close to 4300 since around the beginning of April. The N array averages around 2300 watts and the NE array around 1800 (1900 if I'm lucky) during peak production. The panels have recently been "cleaned" but could probably due with a proper scrubbing as there is still some dust on them. House draw is massive as I've started the pool heat pump and the batteries are around 40 percent each morning. My difficulty is that the PV produces enough to power the load and put about 800 watts back into the batteries but arent enough to maintain the heat pump and fully charge the batteries. I have the following questions: 1) Is the loss in PV production purely related to the position of the sun and the time of the year - am I producing on par with similiar panels ? 2) Do I install an extra array to compensate or do I just grin and bear it until the sun's position improves in the coming months? 3) Can I have too much PV ? Come March 2024 the heat pump goes off and the house will only draw around 1k - 1.5k per hour, will an extra array even be worth it? Thanks for any assistance

  5. Hi all - I hope this is the correct section to post in. My current setup is a 5kw Sunsynk with 2 x Dyness 4.8kw batteries. Our grid connection is awaiting repair from Ekurhuleni (we suspect an issue in the outside box) as we are the only house in the street which doesn't have power. Grid went down with loadshedding on Wednesday and didn't come back - fortunately we have solar and backup batteries. Does anyone have a simple explanation for connecting a generator to the gen aux port on the 5kw Sunsynk - my installer is coming around on Monday to do this but I want a basic understanding of the process so I can follow along with what he does. What we aim to achieve is if the batteries are low is to simply manually start the generator (an 8kw genny) and have it charge the batteries and supply the load. We don't want any auto on / off switches etc. Thanks!

  9. UPDATE Dip switch on the slave battery was incorrectly set and the COMMS cable was incorrectly inserted. Instead of from MSTR battery out to Slave IN and MSTR in to inverter it was swapped around. Batteries are performing optimally and inverter no longer trips from 2500 watt load. Thanks everyone!

  12. The installer is coming round tomorrow to check it out. From the look of it, it looks like the 2nd battery dip switch is incorrect and the communication cable is going from the slave to the inverter and not from the main battery - pretty sure its just this.

  14. Thanks very much @WannabeSolarSparkyand @Nexuss for the helpful advice. My installer is a great guy and I'm sure he will sort it out now that we have a good idea what the issue is. What a brilliant and helpful forum. My first foray into solar was a couple months ago by burning out the MPPT controller in our camp trailer (panels in series just sounded so much cooler) and having to panic research and reinstall a new Victron unit the day before our camping trip. Really enjoying the journey to a off grid system.

Going through the history on the most recent bout of loadshedding it also appears that my batteries SOC went downt to about 78 % after roughly 2hours / 2,15hours of loadshedding with around a 560w -1KW draw - I think this is further confirmation that the inverter is not detecting two batteries?

  20. I think this may very well be the issue. I read on a different forum that the C rating of the batteries do not increase in parallel - i.e. a 100AH battery at 0.5 C coupled with another will still only provide 0.5 C. Does this however mean that it would be 0.5 C @ 200AH meaning I could draw 100 AH in an hour (thus the whole 4.8 KW)?
  21. This is a backup system only to get me through the bouts of loadshedding - I am unsure what a CT coil is or its function. I'll ask my installer about this - the way I understand is that the inverter is wired directly to all circuits on the main DB except the stove, geyser and swimming pool.
  22. I might only add that when the inverter did go off the amps being pulled were in the region of 56 (which were marked in orange) when the kettle was turned on. Watts remained around 2700 - 2800.

  25. I've attached some photos of all the settings pages - not the neatest but difficult to get past the 3MB limit. Also, when the inverter does go off the relevant fault code is F56 - low DC voltage.
  26. Hi all, I've recently ventured into a backup system to get past loadshedding and have had a Sunsynk 5 kw inverter and two Dyness 48 v 4.8kw batteries installed (parallel). Everything works great except, when I pull around 2600 - 2800 watts the inverter shuts down. I suspect there are too many amps being pulled and, as the batteries are 0.5 C rated, only discharge half the available power. Is there any way to increase the available power for discharge i.e. a third battery ? My 5kw inverter is effectively only providing half of its input as a result of the C rating of the batteries. How can I get closer to around 4400 watts etc for use? Is the only way to change batteries? Thanks,
