  2. Hi everyone, Expanding on our discussions about micro hydropower, we wanted to share some details about our Pump as Turbine (PAT) units. Unlike traditional turbine types (like Peltons), Pump as Turbine (PAT) technology utilises standard centrifugal pumps operating in reverse. This approach makes them a particularly cost-effective solution for extracting energy from available water head and flow. PAT units are ideally suited for applications where you have consistent head and flow available, and their design allows them to operate effectively even with back pressure present on the outlet side. This capability makes them exceptionally well-suited for integration into systems like irrigation networks, where pressure variations and existing infrastructure are common. Similar to our other micro hydropower solutions, we've focused on making PAT technology accessible for small-scale users. We achieve this by pairing the PAT with the same reliable standard induction generator technology and our specially adapted control system. This shared platform means owners benefit from convenient remote access for monitoring and management, just like with our Pelton units. A significant advantage of using PATs is their low cost compared to purpose-built turbines, although this often comes with a reduced optimal operating range. However, because they are based on readily available standard pumps (with minor modifications for turbine use), maintenance and sourcing spares are generally straightforward and within reach for most operators.   3. Hi everyone, We wanted to share some information about the Pelton Micro Turbines we've developed at WD Power, highlighting some key design choices. Pelton turbines are a type of Impulse turbine, typically used for sites with high water head but relatively low flow rates. Their design makes them particularly suitable for smaller sites due to their compact footprint and requirement for minimal civil works. At WD Power, we've specifically engineered our micro Pelton unit to be accessible for small-scale users. A core part of this design is the pairing of our locally manufactured Pelton turbine with standard induction generator technology. We've focused on using robust and widely understood induction generators for reliability and ease of maintenance. Beyond the core mechanics, the system includes a specially adapted control panel providing owners with convenient remote access to monitor and manage their turbine's performance. Crucially, these micro turbines are designed to integrate seamlessly with existing solar PV systems, offering a powerful hybrid renewable energy solution for sites already utilising solar power. These WD Power micro Pelton units are now proven in the field and being successfully installed on various sites.   4. For anyone interested in micro or small-scale hydro power, we've developed and launched an online calculator that might be a valuable resource for evaluating potential sites. Evaluating a potential hydro site's output requires understanding a few key factors: Head: The vertical distance the water falls. Flow: The volume of water moving over a specific time. Efficiency: How effectively the turbine and generator convert the water's energy. Losses: Energy lost due to friction in the pipes (penstock). Our calculator at simplifies this by letting you input your estimated Head and Flow. Crucially, it includes a section to help you consider and account for pipe losses, which is essential for a more accurate potential generation estimate. Make sure you adjust the pipe diameter to allow enough flow. Based on your inputs and estimated efficiency/losses, it calculates the potential Generation Capacity in Watts or Kilowatts.
