  1. I think the Growatt is relatively inexpensive as compared to many others. For what it's worth, I have 3 5kw SPF 5000TL HVM-WPV running in parallel since Aug 2020 and I've been quite happy with them. Support has been there when I needed them but I'll admit I'm an engineer and may understand things better than many so factor that into who you buy from if you need support.
  2. My 2Rand. I've been running Dyness B3s with Growatt SPF5000TL-HVM-WPV-P (3 parallel) since Aug 2020. First 4, then 8 and just added 2 more for 10 total. Dyness and Growatt support has been great although my direct email contacts appear to have moved on. Early on required some effort to get firmware up to date on all the components and accurate installation instructions required some effort to get things all working together. That said, happy with everything. I have two batteries that are exhibiting faulty BMS at the moment so I get to deal with Dyness support again. I'll report back for 2023 since I need to deal directly with Dyness since the local distributor I used for my original batteries is out of business.
  3. There website has been down for months and they do not reply to email inquiry. Save your money and go elsewhere. Their FB site should not be trusted.
  4. This response is excellent. Thank you for the response. It simplifies a lot of work required to get solar power out to a building with staff quarters without the exorbitant 3phase landrate charge.
  5. Loosing R13000 deposit is not small change...
  6. In case you're curious, we pay R69.50 per day for admin and network charge before we pay R1 for electricity. So I decided to invest in myself as a more competent service provider than Eskom.
  7. Hello All, Does anyone have any experience discontinuing their Eskom service? I've written their customer service email twice for information on doing so for our rural location but get no response. With the PV, batteries, generators we have installed over the past 9 months it's no longer necessary to pay the exorbitant monthly transmission fees to have them as a backup. Thanks for any help.
  8. I’m leery of the details. I asked Eskom if transmission charges could be offset with electricity generation credits. Eskom has not responded! Half my cost in my rural location is transmission and it’s going to be cheaper in the long run for me to totally sever my Eskom grid connection. I’d love to remain grid-tied but not if the “tie” is a rope around my neck.
  9. Wow, so there appears to be a big problem with Growatt HPM. I have 2 in parallel 5000TL HPM-WPV. 12x340w panels each, 8x3600kwh Dyness batteries. ( I’ve also been playing around with panel configuration for a totally off-grid installation at our rural guesthouse.) In any case, everything was working great ( a few hiccups) until suddenly each inverter will not put out more than 17A charge current. This is a major problem since on overcast days I’m forced to reconnect to Eskom which is my goal to divorce due to their outrageous connection fees for rural installations. I'm working with Growatt and Dyness but no resolutions yet. I'm getting impatient and my initial favorable impression of Growatt and their inverter features is beginning to fade. A few more details. While I was bench testing with different PV panel configurations the system worked fine. Charging current was fine (~>30A) and I was able to charge my battery bank in a few hours (full by noon). The problem arose after I expanded my batteries from 3x3600 to 8x3600 coupled with a weekend of overcast. My system went into SoC @20% shutdown and after that when the sun returned my max charging current would not go over 17A. To add insult to injury, at 82% SOC charge current drops to 14A and at 92% SoC it drops to 7A!! At this rate it takes three days to recharge my batteries. I may have to return my inverters and start over looking for a replacement. if anyone knows more about this problem please speak up.
  10. The HVM appears to be the latest incarnation of the ES (as far as I can tell). I just purchased and installed the HVM-WPV (2x5kw) which allows higher string voltages as well as 1.2x oversizing of the Installed PV (6kw). They may maintaining the different flavors for people who want to expand there systems... you can parallel 6 of them at a time which is great.
