January 29, 20224 yr Hi all, Elsewhere I discuss what I thought was battery degradation on my system (Goodwe ES and Revov batteries). The battery manufacturer has visited twice and says the batteries are OK, for now, but the settings on the Goodwe are wrong and the batteries will get damaged in future and it will not be their fault. The Goodwe is set to BYD B-BOX Pro 10.0. Revov have given me the settings to use. Notably 1V lower on the charge voltage and about 30A less on the charge current. The only way to get these settings into place is to use the Goodwe self-define mode. I use that and the inverter very quickly starts reporting that there are no comms between the inverter and the BMS, shows zero SOC and wants to have nothing to do with the batteries. But the comms cable is in place. Now, how can changing parameters on the inverter cause the BMS to stop sending data? This seems unlikely to me, UNLESS the inverter is looking for data on specific pins. The BMS that Revov use is a BYD piece, and the comms cable is non-standard. So maybe when you tell it it is talking to BYDs it expects certain signals on certain pins? If so then I may be up the creek here. I could get a standard cable, but then this will not be what the BMS expects to talk to. Also it's been tried before and the system became VERY unstable. Eventually Goodwe, hearing that the BYD settings were in use, said that all conductors in the cable should be snipped except for the two middle pins on the plug. Bingo! Inverter starts talking to BMS. So is it the case that I am up the creek without a paddle here? That I can run the inverter in a mode that the batteries don't like, or in a mode that prevents the BMS and the inverter talking to each other?
January 30, 20224 yr Author Another question. If I disconnect the comms cable, will the Goodwe recognise this and stop looking for data on certain pins?
January 30, 20224 yr I am pretty sure Revov uses the seplos BMS. If that is the case, they should be able to configure the battery for Goodwe, since Seplos has that capability. You can find the software here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/10pxgNLHovcDZRVGrCZsSkfecBrRw-AdW?usp=sharing I don't think there is a way to use the software without voiding your warranty, but if you look through the manual you should find the setting for changing the BMS protocol. I think the best would be for them to contact Seplos for the settings for Goodwe. I am guessing, but I believe they have a Pylontech emulation mode, where the BMS will report that the battery is pylontech with all the same CAN frames, then you can set the inverter to "Pylontech". January 30, 20224 yr Author Mine definitely has BYD markings on it. What I am trying to find out by some method other than trial and error is how the Goodwe deals with comms.
February 16, 20224 yr Author OK... I mentioned this in another thread, but just to tidy this one up. 1) BYD is the correct mode to run the Goodwe in. This means that comms work between it and the BYD electronics that Revov use. 2) Because there are comms in place, the BMS is controlling the inverter and telling it what voltage to charge at etc. When there is a clash between the settings the inverter displays and what the batteries want, the BMS ensures that the batteries get what they want irrespective of the settings on the inverter (EG the Goodwe says charge voltage is 56.5, Revov want 55.5, the BMS ensures that the batteries do get 55.5).
