Sunsynk/Deye 8K Hybrid: Which cable it's needed to read rs485 port with ICM (from ICC Solar)?

Featured Replies

Hi, I've just bought a Deye 8K hybrid inverter and I'm pretty happy with it and it feels like a massive update from the Axpert 5.5K hybrid (bought 2, both broke, first one in less than 2 years and second one in less that 1 year) and since I was using ICC for those axpert I bought ICM since it's basically the same thing I used but compatible with Sunsynk/deye

The problem is that I bought a RS485 to usb thingy (https://www.amazon.com/-/es/JT0069/dp/B07B93HX2H) and I broke 2 different rj 45 cables to conect them to the rs485 to usb but ICM (it does recognize that something is plugged in the usb this adapter is plugged in) just won't read any data from the inverter through this adapter, idk if it's the adapter itself, the pinout being wrong or what ICM doesn't tell me an error or nothing, ICM does read data through the RS232 port but I would like to keep the RS 232 port for the solarman wifi and because this rs 232 I have is normally used to read the pylotech us3000C and B batteries through the pylontech console port

I have seen this premade cable but it's like 73€ to send it to my country which is quite a lot https://solar-assistant.io/shop/products/sunsynk_rs485

The pinout I followed was from the inverter's manual, so pin 6, 7 and 8 I also tried 1, 2 and 3 with no luck:

This is the Solar Assistant wiring :

- RJ45 on the inverter end

- Pins 7 + 8 on the USB converter end

However better to use an USB converter with a FTDI chipset rather than CH340. Tried both, had some CRC errors with the CH340 from time to time.

This should do the job :

https://www.amazon.com/usangreen-convertidor-adaptador-medidor-inteligente/dp/B077ZM1PSG/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=1YC7CCHLX4FJM&keywords=usb+rs485+converter+ft+232&qid=1655013487&sprefix=usb+rs485+converter+ft232%2Caps%2C436&sr=8-3

It has 4 pins : only use the + (pin 7 ) and - pins (pin 8 ) or find another one with only 2 pins ;)

Thank you.... I have one of these - https://www.communica.co.za/products/bmt-usb-rs485-ttl-converter-ftdi?variant=31667841826889 which says it has an FDTI chipset...  The 3 pins are A, B and - .... I am trying it with ICM and it does not want to work but now that I know the above works with Solar Assist, I will try with my copy of that too (just need to find the SD card). Wondering if it is my adapter or ICM

Thanks again

As I understand it the ICC system is only designed to work with Aspert based systems and won’t work with Sunsynk/Deye.
Do you even need it?

I have been having similar issues with my dual 5KW Mecer Axperts. Ever since the ICC to SMH upgrade last year things have gone haywire. I have replaced one Axperts MPPT in January and shortly after that my 3 Pylontechs BMS blew. I have since received one of the batteries back from repair. It took a month! A month later and I I!m still waiting no for the other 2.

I am thinking about getting an 8KW Deye or Sunsynk.
Maybe you could tell me something - does it switch off when we have load shedding? This anti islanding makes me a bit nervous and I’m concerned that if the grid stops then the whole system stops suppling load even with batteries.

Thanks

ICM (the new version of ICC) supports the Sunsynk/Deye systems and a few more.

Sorry to hear about your issues, I never had any problems with my Axpert... Re the Sunsynk and loading shedding / grid stops... No, I have not had any issues so far but I am still in setup / installation phase and have only run it without grid for a few minutes at a time... So, I can only fully answer once the setup is complete but there should be absolutely no reason it can not run on battery only as that is what it is designed to do.

Thank you for the info system32.

Jay-Dee please let me know how you progress. Are you still using the Axperts or is the Sunsynk for a different system.

You just need this and a Rj45 cable. Cut one end of the RJ45 cable and screw in pin 7, pin 8 (generally White brown, brown on a straight patch cord) to this converter A and B ports respectively.

Hi, does anyone got ICM working with RS485 at all? I would love to know because if the problem it's simply that my usb adapter doesn't work and I need another one, and in case you do have it working please tell me which usb to rs485 adapter you have, thanks

Morning All

I have 3 of these Five Star 8K invertors in parallel as in the picture and are also struggling to communicate with it with ICM. I have the Wi-Fi Dongle and that is great just for monitoring but serve no help when it comes to power management. Any idea or work arounds on how to make it work or any other power management systems that would work with this invertor.

I have tried both USB-printer port and USB-serial port with various of cables bought but it seems that the raspberry pi does not want to recognize the cable or retrieve the data. As said with the Wi-Fi dongle the data is visible which assures me that the RS232 port is work.

The invertor does not have a RJ45 port to connect USB-RJ45
