Growatt/ Shoto BMS Communication

Recommended Posts

Hi All, this is my first post on this forum. I have been trying to establish BMS communication between a GROWATT 5000TL HVM and a Shoto SDA10 5.12 KWH using a cable that was manufactured based on information from each respective manual. When connected between the BMS RJ45 port on the inverter and the CAN port on the battery, I get 4/20 error on the display of my inverter indicating a BMS communication error. The inverter firmware is 500.08/002.00/null and I am also using a wifi data logger ShineWifi-S with firmware 1.7.6.6. I have tried numerous settings on option 36 (LI02, LI07, LI51,LI52) but the red fault indicator still remains on with the 4/20 error displayed.

Is the custom cable configured correctly?

Does the cable on the inverter side require a ground pin as it currently only has two pins configured (CANH & CANL), the battery side has two pins going to ground in the cable shield (See attached)?

Has anybody out there got the BMS working correctly between these two pieces of equipment?

I was also told by my installed that the battery does not need an earth if I am running a single battery, not sure if this is accurate?

Hi, I did not get this resolved and the reason is as follows:

The Growatt inverter (GROWATT 5000TL HVM) I have is an older model which does not support CANBUS. This was introduced for the newer Growatt models so I had to rely on voltages to control the charging of the Shoto battery. The manual says it does but it actually does not.  Do you have the same setup?
