Meter reading v Inverter usage

Featured Replies

I have two Deye 5kw inverters installed. The consumption reported by Solar Assistant is almost half the monthly Tshwane meter reading. Any idea on what the problem might be?

I would start by connecting a known load like kettle and have all other loads off and verify the Solar Assistent reading to the kettle Watts.

Also keep the kettle boiling for 6min by emptying as water boils and if a 2kw kettle the Tshwane meter should show a 0.2kwh use.

I have the same issue. Deye 8kwh inverter using solarassistant will read for example Load = 1000w Grid = 1000w but my COJ prepaid meter will be reading 2000w.

If I switch to battery it will read Load = 2000w and battery discharging 2000w and grid zero, which is correct.

Not sure if the problem is my hardware setup or solarassistant.

Any ideas?

Is your CT reading accurately?

Another thing to look at is common neutrals.  I had issues in the past where load values were totally wrong depending on what was running.  The reason being the inverter's internal CT measuring load is on the neutral wire.  If some of the current is flowing down another neutral it will under read and vice versa depending on the situation.  If you have a clamp current meter do a test on the load live and neutral to see if they are the same.

I set up Solar Assistant as per example on their site for Axpert parallel inverters where the software reads total values (slave and master) from single connection to master inverter. This does not work for Deye/Sunsynk - both inverters must be connected by usb cable to the system. I did this and readings are now okay.
