My understanding of a solar system is that if it is grid tied you will need a reference point during loadshedding for the system to still supply electricity to the building. A reference point will be either a generator or a BESS (batteries). Advice needed: 1. Is my understanding correct? 2. If so what are the minimum BESS requirements for a 214 KWP system - we currently use a generator as the reference point during loadshedding but are wondering what is the smallest BESS that can be used as a reference point. This is for an office block. Thank you.

Advice needed: Yes & no, some of the newer Axpert type inverters are said to produce AC from just solar panels, assumption of course there's no clouds etc. and the AC voltage can fluctuate some... As for a battery, if there is no problem with clouds etc. then the next problem is your load, if the load is fairly constant and not varying then the batteries would not need be huge, but if a cloud comes over... anyway, I'd say you really need to look at your constant or not so constant consumption and then consider things further... maybe a battery that can carry the can for, lets say 15minutes whilst the generator starts and stabilises, assuming the need to keep the electrons flowing is there... either way, you need to specify a lot more to be able to get more sound and correct advice...
