Did the battery not come with a comms cable? It would look like a normal ethernet cable but with a different pin-out

Thanks for the reply. Not sure as I just ordered the battery and is unsure what is coming with it.

ah ok - yeah the battery should come with comms cables then you just plug it in the right port on the Inverter and the battery. Do the config on the inverter and bobs your uncle the battery and inverter should start talking

Thanks Mzezman,

I have not installed those combination before, but will press on you button if I have issues. I assume the settings on Hubble site is correct for the inverter.

How does these units connect to the internet?

The inverter will come with a dongle that will allow you to monitor and change settings relating to charge thresholds etc. The Hubbles connect via a RIOT cloudlink device which allows for firmware updates and battery monitoring as well

Both connect to your LAN

Thanks, so with the dongle I should be able to monitor the inverter and battery. I am not installing the RIOT for now.

Yes the dongle will tell you at a high level what your inverter, panels, battery and loads are doing. Since you bought now you SHOULD get the new sunsynk dongle which also allows you to control inverter and battery settings remotely from your phone.

Hi all,

What cable is needed to let the inverter and battery talk to each other?

Thanks

The SunSynk 8k has

  • DB9 RS232 Serial Port - this is normally occupied by the optional SolarMan or SunSynk dongle - used for Firmware and monitoring connects to internet via WiFi - the Dongle is included by some stores, and is an optional  extra at others.
  • RJ45 ModBus Port - Can be used for monitoring - eg Solar Assistant/Python/Home Assistant
  • RJ45 CanBus Port - use a normal Ethernet cable to connect to the RJ45 CanBus port on the first AM-2 battery

The Hubble AM2 has:

  • RJ45 CanBus Port - On first battery - use a normal Ethernet cable to connect to the RJ45 CanBus port on the SunSynk
  • RJ45 ModBus Port - Not normally used
  • 2 x RJ45 battery link port - inter connect each battery with the supplied cable (or use an Ethernet cable)
  • 1 x RJ11/RJ12 RS232 console port - connect with the optional RIOT Cloudlink or Solar Assistant

RIOT/Cloudlink is NOT required as the SunSynk and AM-2 talk to each other directly via canbus.

TIP: The questions you are asking basic are clearly explained in the SunSynk installer manual located here:
https://www.sunsynk.org/documents
