September 25, 20223 yr I´m running a off grid system with 3 Pylontech batteries and an Axpert 5kW since now about 4 years. In very rare cases I´d need a generator to avoid that the batteries are running empty. The generator I own is a inverter type with 2kW stable output. I tried to connect the generator to the system with battery charging power set to 20A, but it shut down, when I connected the batteries. Is there any trick how to start the system?

You should have the battery connected before you attempt to connect the generator. Connecting a battery to an inverter without a pre-charge circuit will likely cause the battery BMS to go into current limit; that might upset the inverter. The inverter based generator should be fine, as long as you don't have much of a load when you connect. The generator will have to supply the load as well as the charging current. Axperts don't have a maximum generator power setting, sadly.
