Posted January 6, 20232 yr So we have a problem with our new solar setup Sunsynk inverter 8 kw - I assume a sunsynk 5kw lithium battery and 8x 420w+- Canadian solar panels , we had a load draw of 5000w +- just while the tv and lights was on, we had been out to dinner and just came home before loadshedding, got home turned the lights and tv on and then 5min later loadshedding started. the geyser is set NOT to use the solar battery or panels until we switch it to do so. everything else was off in the house but the 5kw lithium battery showed it depleted in roughly 30min+-. The battery lights indicate almost full battery roughly 90%. When I check the app, it showed battery at 0% then after the loadshedding ended it charged up to 19% ,then i tried turning off breakers to find the 5000W draw and the battery jumped to 90% on the app and after turning the breakers back on the battery went down to 19% again. the load continued while we went to sleep, I assume the load ended at some point. at 4am in the morning there was a massive 4500 +- w load while we are all asleep. it spiked for a few min then dropped. I've contacted the solar installer and asked him to send out a electrician because something isn't right and I'm worried about a fire hazard. he has so far refused to come out and told me the battery is fine it charged normally to 90% in about 5min but cant explain the drop back to 19% (this has to be BS i dont know if thats even possible) What is the way forward here? do we get a 3rd party electrician to come and write a report and then lodge complaints at the Consumer ombud? If he is unwilling to check and make sure the system is running correctly what do we do We checked reviews and references before getting the system from him and everyone seemed happy.
January 6, 20232 yr Sorry to hear about your troubles. It would be good to share the settings pages from the inverter. Battery, Grid, System mode. Mine did the same once and I found that the installer did not set the battery capacity, charge, discharge rates and grid amps correctly.
January 6, 20232 yr Might be interesting specifically to know whether the inverter is running in Voltage mode to obtain the SOC, or if the Lithium mode is selected, to confirm if the Li-BMS data are displaying correctly.
January 6, 20232 yr Always bad to hear of a system that is not working as it should and a sparky that tells you all is OK. That battery cannot even charge from 19% to 90% in 20min. It does appear as the wrong SOC is reported. Edited January 6, 20232 yr by Scorp007
January 11, 20232 yr Author Sorry for the delay in replying to this, but we eventually got the solar installer to come back and he found that the geyser was running on the solar setup and battery when it shouldn't have been, something about the switch that changes it between mains and solar being faulty and they will go ahead and fix it.
