CS 660w vs JA 550W

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Will be installing a Sunsynk 12kw 3 Ph (through a certified Installer).

I am trying understand why most solar installers like to use the JA 550W panel as opposed to the CS 660W panel?

I could put 12 x CS 660w Panels which would be the max wattage rating of the mppt at peak production and still be within the 25A threshold, vs 550W panels which require more space and installation to achieve the same Wattage and ultimately limited by VOC on number of panels.

The CS 660W would achieve Wattage threshold before VOC is reached.

Am I missing something?

With 550, you can install 2 strings in parallel on the 25A MPPT, and one on the 13A MPPT. The 660 Isc is too high to parallel, and also too high for the 13A MPPT.

But if the 660W works for your setup and roof, then you can save on mounting hardware.

Yup the 550w makes sense if you need 2 strings, because of the Amperage limite, and maybe panel layout is important agreed.

If not -in my case - one string of 12 x 660w is better, just not sure if there is a negative to having these panels.

Some people also install 450w panels instead of 550w.

Im just not sure why, maybe Amperage, but you would reach VOC limit and not maximise wattage.
