Sunnyjhb Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 (edited) Hi everyone, I'm really looking forward to getting a little more independent when it comes to electricity and I want to start off with an 8kw inverter and a 5kw battery for now. In a few months, and when affordability is there, I'll add on an extra 5kw battery to supplement and unlock the inverter to its full 8kw. I've decided to go with SunSynk as they seem to be really quite good in functionality, reliability and support. Their battery also has 6000 cycles + and 100% DOD which seems great. Please will some installers drop me a message as it would be great to get going with the install. My budget on the top end is about 90k. PS. I'm in Roodepoort. Many thanks in advance. Bobster. Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 One thing to note here is that this system will not back up 8kW. If you try that, the battery will shut down. OTOH you have room for expansion here. This looks to be on the high side for the inverter and battery. I would get other quotes. Don't show this quote to another prospective installer, but compare what different installers quote you. Make sure that the quotes include wiring, lugs, circuit breakers, splitting the DB etc. Also get some estimate of delivery time. Demand is high right now, and some wholesalers are short on stock. You might decide that a prompt install is worth something. Quote

As soon as I can afford another 5kw battery, I'll open it up to the full 8 kva of power. I should be able to run everything through 5kva if I'm just cognisant of what's running so that shouldn't be an issue unless forgetfulness sets in. Thanks for your input. If any JHB installers want to quote at around R90k mark then I'm happy to accept some quotes for the full install and SoC then that would be great. Edited March 10, 2023 by Sunnyjhb Quote
