Posted March 13, 20232 yr Good day all. We moved into a new place and inherited a solar system. I am new at this so have a few questions: The system uses a 5kw Mecer inverter. 8x 350W panels and a lot of lead acid batteries. I believe these batteries are at end of life. I would like to replace them with a LifePO4 battery but can only afford something in the 2.? - 3.? Kwh range. What battery would you recommend? I looked at the N-Energy ones but are not sure. Can the inverter be set to deliver less output than its rated 5kw to safeguard the battery and not trip. We use the system to keep our fridges running during power outages and some small strip leds. No kettles, geyser or other heavy power equipment run on it. Thanks Gerhard

The inverter only draws from the battery as much as you connect power to it. You set the limit by limiting the consuming appliances. Concerning batteries: 2 - 3kWh is very, very low for a 5kW inverter. I highly recommend at least a 4.8kWh (100Ah) pack as these are industrial standards.
April 7, 20231 yr Hello Gerhardd, I second Beat's suggestion to get one or two 5kWh class Lithium batteries. With the way EKSDOM is going, scrounge and get one soon. Just about any brand will work with your inverter. Your solar panels are worth gold, they will pay off the batteries in a few years. Then you have free electricity. Having power 24/7, priceless!
