The web based emoncms is no longer going to be free from  1 July 2018.

The way I understand it is that you will pay £1 / year  / feed. If you have 30 Node inputs then that will be £ 30 / year.

Emoncms Local hosting will still be for free.

Hosting such software cost a wee bit. Am surprised they took so long.

I know for we have been hosting EMON for a while now on a Linux virtual machine running a Hetzner rented Windows server.

Hetzner charges extra for Windows servers. Why on earth would you host emon on windows... WHY!?

(unless of course you're also using it for other windowsy things...).

Obviously. ;)

We tried one or two "free" Linux hosting's sites.

Digital Ocean. 5USD a month for what they call a "droplet". 1GB memory, 25GB disk, 1TB transfer. Ample for running emon and most other things.

Uhm ... we are already paying for a Windows server ...

But thanks for the heads-up for others if they want to host their own.

Yup, that was more or less the intent. And you said you tried some free offerings. I wanted to mention one that isn't free, but so cheap that it's worth it. It's cheaper even than Amazon's virtual servers, and these days with docker taking over the hosting world... you pretty much build your app into a docker container and just deploy it anywhere.

Edit: In fact, someone's done the hard work already :-)
