Heater coil

Recommended Posts

No.

  • P=VI
  • I = 3000/230
  • I = 13amps
  • P=I^2R
  • R=3000/169 = 18ohms

If you shorten coil by 20% then the resisatnce will decrease by 20%, so R = 14.5

  • V=IR
  • I = V/R = 230/14.5 = 16amps
  • P = VI = 230 x 16 =3680W

So shortening by 20% will INCREASE power by about 20%, also increase current which the wire may not be designed to carry.
