Deye inverter shut down feed at 30% SOC and SOC started at 0% a few minutes later?

hi, I'm fairly new to all this, so appreciate any explanations that can help.

 

I had an additional battery and panels added to my system earlier this week - I now have 3x batteries. This morning the SOC was at 32% and we lost power - I assume it's becayse the system is set to shut down at 30%? The issue is, a fe minute later, wehn the grip power was re-instated, the SOC showed 0% and it it slowly started to charge up again from there - currently at 7%. 

Is this expected behaviour - why did it not start up again at a something like 29%? Or does this mean that one of the batteries is faulty and couldn't carry any load ?

It is not expected behavior, but I have seen this many times.

Couple of things to note is that the SOC is not always accurate. Every BMS (Battery Management System) calculates it differently. The SOC is based on an algorithm that is affected by many things such as temperature, cell chemistry, age of cells, luck, etc.

To give you a better diagnosis of what is going on you will have to paste another chart here with Battery Current, Battery Voltage and SOC. From that chart I will be able to better diagnose the issue.

My current guess is that your battery is not getting fully charged and the BMS is overestimating the charge level.

What battery are you running? Hubble?

Did you update the capacity on the inverter from 200 to 300Ah? When the new battery was added did you do a top balance for a few hours to align the battery SOCs?

@mzezman thank you so much for your comment. The installer removed two Hubble batteries and added 3x Freedom Won eTower batteries. For a few days the 'Activate Battery' setting has now been on, which from my reading of the Deye manual means that the balancing should be taking place or should be completed by now.

Thanks for your response @HendrikBigChief, much appreciated. Here's a chart containing the battery info that is available to me via the Solarman smart interface - don't think it contains everything you asked for, but it certainly seems that the;re a disconnect between wha tthe inverter thinks is available and what the batteries are delivering. It's unfortunately an unknown kind of battery called Freedom Won eTower...

There is a more advanced chart on the solarman app. Click on the Device tab, then select your inverter. The click on the statistics tab. Then click on the chart itself and then you will be able to select additional parameters including the ones I asked for. You will have to scroll down quite a bit to get to Battery Voltage, Battery Current and SOC.

Thanks for the chart, something very strange is going on, it is not charging correctly from what I can see. It also massively over estimates the SOC and various points.

Can you please sample the battery voltage at these two points (1. Peak of dark blue line and 2. just after the SOC goes to 100%). Zooming in on that area will also help me.

When I say sample, basically hover there like so:

I want to see what the max charge voltage gets to at (1) and I want to see the voltage just after the battery has been fully charged with current as close to 0 as possible at point 2 if that makes sense.

Of course, thanks so much for your time - I've logged it ticket with the installer - not happy witht he batteries they supplied - I want my hubbles back :)

Thanks. So I see you are running in Battery % mode. I would either run the batteries in Lithium or Battery V mode.

If running in Battery V mode (which I would recommend in this case), I would use the following settings from your battery manual:

Float V: 53.6V

Absorption V: 55.5V

Shutdown: 49V

Low Batt: 51V

Running in Battery V mode with the above settings should fix the issues you are seeing. Let us know how it goes. Good Luck.
