August 17, 20188 yr I am trying to determine whether this avenue is an option to be "off grid "with the Axpert and the sign off will be a simple one. There be no grid connection and you will get a "grey day" battery charge from the generator whether a manual or electrical start/stop. You will still have a solar connection/daily charge option. The registration(form completion) of the generator connection is a must I see for COCT.

This is not a CoCT thing, they are just enforcing these existing regulations, "being years ahead of the rest". (That part in quotes coming from a large Jhb solar supplier.)

If you do that, with a proper break before make changeover switch in both live and neutral (as you would for a backup generator), and your earthing is sorted, it should sign off as off-grid. The problematic configuration, the one that needs more work or someone to take the plunge as TTT keeps saying, is when you have PV panels connected to the device AND the grid connected to AC-in. Remove either of those two and it is legal.
