In May I replaced a 18000BTU non-inverter aircon with a GMC 24000BTU inverter aircon. 

The 18000 use to trip a 20Amp (Replaced with 25A) breaker on startup and use to draw just short of 4kw. I use to record 16Amps   

The time I installed the Inverter Aircon, one of my inverters were still out of service, but now its back as well as i installed 6 extra panels so I decided to connect that  aircon circuit to my inverter circuit. For the first time I measured the consumption and could not believe the results. 

First let me  mention, the 9000BTU    12000BTU non-inverter in my bedroom draws 1.5kw. This inverter is rated at 2.8kw. It drew 1.5kw when I started it, and now 45min later when I checked it was drawing just under 500watts.. 

Will order a  12000BTU   18000BTU for bedroom later today. (Just recalculated and although 12000BTU is sufficient) I opt for one size bigger to force it to go into idle mode and to be capable of  additional supply when I leave the door open 

I'm looking as well Jaco... what make and model would you recommend (the GMC) and a supplier?

Hi @Mark I chose the GMC for the following reasons. On the mine that I work for, we have tested different brands and the only one that reaches its guarantee period in our harsh conditions is GMC, the mine only procure them. On the mine they are subjected to So2 gas, extreme dust and heat. I bought locally from the agents that services the mine, I did get online quotes . but the delivery makes it more expensive than buying locally. I will send you their detail in pm, as the head office is in JHB and they should have a better logistics option than what i can come up with. 

The model I bought was the AS24TFVG

 

Got a quote for a 12000BTU with pipes, Vat inclusive R8280 waiting for 18000BTU price...
