November 28, 20232 yr Hi All Scenario: LV Panel cabling from panels to combiner box in a roof space. I assume these cables must be in mechanical containment (trunking and or conduit) to avoid damage? As per Sans code 10142 or the appropriate code for solar installations (domestically). Correct? Or is it not required to have containment? Great if someone could give me the relevant SANS section/subsection either way on this.

All the gp ac wires in the photo is contained in 25mm pvc conduit, why not the single pos and neg dc wires? If it was decided to use 4mm² or 6mm² Surfix or Norsk cable in the roof space it would have been within Sans spesifications but it is single conductors that must be contained in pvc conduit or trunking. If the wire run exceed >50 meters the pv wires needs to be in metal conduit earthed at 1 point. Furthermore the dc pv wires needs to be labeled "DC PV Wires" with intervals if in pvc conduit or Surfix. Care needs to be taken on high voltage pv cables as the dc side of the installation is much less forgiving than the ac wiring.

I was going to ask about PVC conduit when you showed us the picture of it over the ridge on a roof. I thought it had to be steel?
