March 4, 20242 yr Hi All I'm battling to make sense of the Power Flow graphic of my SolisCloud app, connected to a Synapse Ultra Hybrid 5kWh inverter (image attached). Looking at the numbers, I've figured out that the differential between PV and Grid Load (Grid Load – PV) equals the differential between Grid and Backup Load (Grid – Backup Load). And that Backup Load + Grid Load is referred to as "Total Consumption" in the stats in the App. But I can't translate these mathematical relationships into something that makes physical sense. The app manual and inverter manual are utterly unhelpful. Help...! Robert

Then the 2 areas using power is grid power and back up power. Adding the 2 loads that will be equal to the 2 sources. At this point nothing goes in or out of the battery. The grid load comes directly from the grid and not through the inverter. The back up goes from PV to back up load and can also come from the battery if fitted. If your PV was more then less will come from the grid. The grid power will be off if the grid is off like during LS. Your way is spot on. Edited March 4, 20242 yr by Scorp007
March 4, 20242 yr Author Aah, the light bulb is starting to go on... Why can the documentation that comes with equipment worth over R100 000 not contain 3 simple sentences like your first 3, sending users instead scrambling for info on the internet...? One would think that that shouldn't be so hard. Also, the grid load arrow being drawn as if it came from the inverter was throwing me. The sums all work out, and so does your explanation. But what are those two areas that are using power: "grid load" vs. "back up load"? I thought at first that back up load refers to the electricity used to recharge the battery, but that's obviously not right given the numbers, and the graph. So the name doesn't make sense to me... Sorry, noob questions.

Those are all basically your household electrical appliances and devices. Typically your smaller devices on plug points can be backed up by the battery and solar, so if Eskom goes down, those backup loads will stay live. The grid loads are typically too big/heavy to be backed up on battery, often things like the geyser or the oven, so they stay on the grid side of the inverter. If Eskom goes down those big consumers go down. If you don't know how your house has been wired up, ask the installer, else turn off your mains switch for a short test and see which plugs are still working on the inverter. The grid load is on the side as the solar power or Eskom can feed it so it does not come through the inverter but partly bypass it. Also solar power can then charge the battery and also feed the back up side. This means this power comes through the inverter. The power from the battery will also go through the inverter to the back up circuits. Just a bit more information now that you already know how things fit in.

April 7, 20251 yr I have two different hybrid inverters, and I've attached a screenshot below for reference. Can you help me understand a scenario where the power coming from the grid is lower, but the power going to the grid load is higher?
