Inverter Voltronic Axpert King VM3 and Pylontec UP2500 Battery - BMS error

Featured Replies

Hello, maybe someone can help me here. I have a Voltronic Axpert King VM3 inverter and a Pylontec UP2500 battery. I have already replaced the BMS cable. When I select “Watchpower” for the Pylon inverter with the software (preconfigured profile), I regularly get “Cell” High Voltage and “Battery” High Voltage with “BatteryView” and the battery occasionally switches to “Protect” mode. Furthermore, the battery switches off at 25 +-0.2 V (not at 23.3V or 24V). I get no support response from Pylontec. The inverter manufacturer has sent me the latest firmware and is of the opinion that it is due to the BMS of the battery. Does anyone have an idea how I can solve the problem? The battery is about 4 months old (bought new) and the inverter is about 1.5 years old (also bought new). The problem has existed since day one.

Best Regards

Uwe Johannes

The VM III  and King models are very different. Perhaps you could post a photo of the sticker on the side of the inverter?

Are those voltages as measured by the inverter, the battery's software, or by a multimeter?

It may be that your inverter's battery voltage calibration is way off. That can be corrected with the appropriate series of commands.

Hello Coulomb, here are the Photos.

With teh Batery Software , Batteryview.

The Team from Voltronic is working very fine, they send me the latest Firmware for the Inverter and it is installed.

The Battery Calibration is done with the Communication Tool.

Many thanks and best Regards from Fuerteventura !

Ok, thanks. So that's a King, not a VM III.

Hopefully the calibration procedure will fix or at least vastly improve your problem.

Hello Coulomb,

unfortunately, that didn't help. BatteryWatch and Viewpower now show the same volt figure (was different before), but when I activate the BMS, the battery gets High Voltage again, Cell High Voltage and then goes back into Protect Mode.

Actual i´ve used the User Profile and Set the max.Charge to 28,1V and it works because i need the BMS for the Battery health.

my greatest Problem is the Battery is shut down at 25,0 +- 0,2V (with and without BMS) is this normal ?

Shutting down at 25.0 V is not normal, no.

I have a suspicion that the bad battery voltage reading at the inverter has chronically  undercharged the battery modules, causing the cells  to become severely unbalanced over time. It could be that with proper charging from now on, it may gradually get better and better. But unfortunately, that might take weeks.

The severe unbalancing could cause the early shutoff, too.

You might be able to speed up the balancing by opening up the battery modules and balancing the cells manually (charging the ones that are lower than average, discharging the ones that are higher than average). I have car bulbs for just this purpose, and a "lab" dual power supply with current limiting. But if there is any chance that you might need and be able to get warranty service/replacement, then this is obviously out of the question.

Since day one, the battery has had the problem that it switches off at 25V (14.07.2024).
The seller wants me to send it in for warranty processing at my own expense and if it is not a warranty case, I should bear the costs.
The battery comes from mainland Spain and I live in the Canary Islands.

Actual without BMS, no Errors...

The Voltage is pending 25,9V - 26,1V on the Battery with a Multimeter.ViewPower Software : 26V , BatteryView 26,1V.

I have no idea what is wrong...

Any Idea ?

Best Regards

As I said earlier,  I suspect it's badly unbalanced cells due to the inverter reading the battery voltage incorrectly for a long time.

You choices are:

* Wait and see. With the corrected battery voltage readings, it should balance over the course of several weeks, perhaps longer since the inverter was misreading the voltage for so long. If so, the battery should cut off gradually at lower and lower voltages, giving longer and longer run-times.

* Balance the battery by hand. This requires you or someone else to open the case and clip on loads or a power supply, and will likely void the warranty.

* Send  the battery in  for repair or  replacement. It sounds like this could be a slow, expensive process.

* Purchase another battery module(s), possibly while trying to get the existing modules repaired  or replaced or balanced.

Personally, I'd balance by hand, but I've had experience doing this before, and have the appropriate equipment.

Hello Coulomb, thank you very much for the information ! The Seller has contacted Pylontech. Now i have to wait and see if they get an answer (i currently have 3 open cases at Pylontech)... Because no Answer...
