Is It Normal for My Solar Inverter to Make a Slight Humming Noise?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I'm fairly new to solar and recently got a basic setup installed at home (5kW inverter with 4.8kWh lithium battery and 6 panels). Everything seems to be working fine, but I’ve noticed that my inverter makes a faint humming or buzzing noise, especially during the day when it’s sunny.

It’s not loud or disruptive, just something I noticed because the inverter is mounted inside my garage. I asked the installer, and he said it’s normal, but I just wanted to check with the community here — is this humming sound common with inverters? Or could it be a sign of something wrong?

Also, is it normal for the sound to get a bit louder when the solar production is at its peak?

Thanks in advance!
Looking forward to learning more from you all as I go deeper into this solar journey. 🌞

Yeah, a faint humming or buzzing sound from the inverter is pretty normal especially when it's under load during peak solar generation.

Inductor Noise – Inverters use high-frequency switching to convert DC to AC, and the coils inside can vibrate slightly, causing a hum.

The fan should be running at peak solar production so the humming should not be audible when the fans are running.
