That's cause a Lithium battery has a BMS that can give the inverter accurate battery capacity, and manage safe shutoff if needed. With a Lead Acid you need a 3rd party monitoring system, which may or may be compatible with the inverter itself. 

At the end of the day it helps to guarantee performance

ok i have a Goodwe ES and not EM with lead acids. Maybe they are different but the SOC reported by the inverter is actually very accurate. (comparing it with the BMV-702).
