Goodwe 5048D-ES not connecting to grid

Featured Replies

My 5+ year old inverter suddenly does not "see" the grid, I did not change any settings, although did try to look via SOLARGO if I there were any settings that could have caused the problem, turned export limit on and off, think its turned back on, the oven on non-essential also does not work. If I turn off the inverter of and move the changeover switch to MAINS i can power the house and oven but the moment the inverter is connected the grid dissapears. I'm normally able to push power back into the grid.

Has anyone had a similar problem and can suggest a fix?

I checked with a friend if there were any grid instabilites high/low voltage frequency changes but he did not record anything excessive.

I see there is a reset pinhole on the smart meter (where power is fed into the house) but did not want to fiddle with it.

Hi Bobster

Its in general mode. It started at 7:34 on Saturday morning and still going, I cant find any messages in Solargo about but grid voltage & frequency.

There are settings to protect the inverter. Upper voltage 269v, Lower voltage 171, Upper frequency 52.45Hz, lower frequency 47.55Hz. In Advanced settings Power limit value = On, Power Limit value set at 6000. On home page Meter/CT status Not detected. Backup ON, Power limit ON

You'll find the grid data, the actual state of the grid that the ES sees (but may refuse to connect to) there.

You can see that I have 237.9V at 49.8Hz incoming, and the inverter has synchronised with that.

You'll also see the slider towards the top. Slide that to Alarm to get the latest error messages. These are sometimes not very clear.

If your ES is seeing any sort of grid then you will have numbers against AC Output & AC Frequency. If the voltage against Backup Output differs then the ES is providing backup to those circuits, but has not synchronised with the grid.

Thanks Bobster

I made a screenprint of SOLARGO, it looks like the ES is not seeing the grid at all, the Alarm field is blank. Logged a problem on the Goodwe site

I'd get some wiring checked first. Outside of an actual outage, the ES will disconnect from the grid if voltage or frequency stray too far, but will still monitor the grid. Here it's behaving as if it's load shedding IE as if there is no grid. So does it have any connection at all to the grid?

I say that glibly. I might go as far as taking a multi-meter and measuring across the grid input terminals on the Goodwe, but any more than that I'd get in an electrician.

Hi Bobster

I'm very impressed with your diagnosis. Thank you. The Electrician left a few minutes ago, the neutral wire in the main DB somehow "worked" itself loose and after tightening all connections all is well. Goodwe support made a similar suggestion.

I learnt a couple of things

One should at least once a year have an electrician check your systems and DB's

The house only used 40% of the 14.2kWh battery capacity overnight from around 16h00 to 07h00 If there is enough sun batteries are fully charged by 13h00.

I'm glad you got it all sorted out.

It's just working through possibilities - good old process of elimination.

I'm impressed that you got such fast response from Goodwe support. In my experience they always address the problem, but it takes time.

Which channel did you use that was so responsive?

Hi Bobster, I've not been on the site for a while. I logged a fault on the Goodwe website on Sunday 18 th May and called them the next day. Sisanda from Goodwe help desk ran some remote checks and within a hour gave the following feedback.

"the inverter appears to be physically disconnecting from the grid. We have reviewed the settings on our side, and everything is configured correctly.
This type of issue may indicate a potential problem with the grid connection itself, such as fluctuations in voltage or frequency, poor wiring, or an unstable grid supply. It could also be caused by external factors like loose connections, faulty breakers, or grid protection triggering due to irregularities.
We recommend checking the physical wiring, grid stability, and any external protection devices to ensure they are operating as expected."

Only logging a faults normally takes longer than a day to get feedback.
