Mounting a weatherproof (IP-rated) enclosure vertically with a sealed lid and fitting IP-rated cable glands on the left and right sides is legal/compliant, subject to the following SANS 10142-1 requirements:

SANS requires you to maintain the enclosure’s ingress protection rating after installation.

This means: Use IP65 or IP66 glands if the enclosure is IP65/IP66. Glands must be correctly sized for the cable OD. Locknuts and sealing washers (if required by manufacturer) must be used. If the glands or installation method reduce the enclosure’s IP rating, it becomes non-compliant.

You can also use a electrical drip loop for extra protection.

Eish! The burden on the householder. I have external light fittings (no glands) and it seems I have to maintain the seals. OK... So there's a good technical case for this. But if my insurers send a loss adjuster he's almost bound to find something.
