Glands must be correctly sized for the cable OD. Locknuts and sealing washers (if required by manufacturer) must be used. If the glands or installation method reduce the enclosure’s IP rating, it becomes non-compliant. You can also use a electrical drip loop for extra protection.

I have external light fittings (no glands) and it seems I have to maintain the seals. OK... So there's a good technical case for this. But if my insurers send a loss adjuster he's almost bound to find something.
