May 7, 20197 yr Hi Guys. I have the opprtunity to buy a Victron Multiplus 5kva and Sunny boy sb3000 sma from a system that is being upgraded? It also includes a Sunny boy single phase smart meter, display and home manager included. What would a reasonable price be? Thank you for your assistance in advance.

May 8, 20197 yr Buy it before load shedding hits... the price goes up then! A new 5KVA MP-II is around 16k now (it's a bit of a guess... verify it!), and depending on the age of it you want to pay somewhere between 40% and 80% of that, so somewhere between 7k and 13k. I know I'm comparing an original aluminium case Multi with the new MP-II... but I'd say that's the competitor for someone in the market. I can't say about the SunnyBoy.

A Victron ESS setup has an energy meter on the input side, and it will attempt to keep that energy meter at zero. This works both ways, so when it sees power being imported it will take power from the batteries to cancel it out BUT... if it sees power being exported (by that sunnyboy) it will import it and charge the batteries. By connecting the PV directly to the AC side, you get more efficient direct consumption during the day. You can also tie the Sunnyboy to the output of the Multi, then it remains on even if the grid fails. The only downside to the Sunnyboy: You can't grid-limit it like you can with a Fronius or an ABB. So it is not a great fit for people with prepaid meters.

That probably makes it a series-19 processor too, which is really old and cannot run the modern assistants (such as ESS). Unless this is a 26-series control board (look at the sticked on the control board inside), I would probably not buy it. It might make a good inverter for off-grid use on a farm though.

The Multiplus-II 3KVA usually sells around 13.5k, and costs EUR 1080 or thereabouts. the MP-II 5KVA is therefore 1400/1080 = 30% more, or 17.5k. I see I estimated 16k... no idea how I came up with that. Probably a typo.
