August 1, 20197 yr Hi All What type of manual switch would you recommend that i use to switch between my 2 battery banks so that i can use one bank and switch to another if the first banks voltage drops to 48v from 52v, then switch back to both banks before morning charging begins ? My system consists out of 2 strings of 4 12v 105amp deltec batteries. Thanks.

To be honest, I can not see any benefit in doing this. this will lead to uneven use of the two stings, witch might lead to a difference in the internal resistance of the strings consequently leading to premature failure of one of the 2 banks. . Why not keep both connected. The usage will remain exactly the same. The load will be equally split between the 2 banks (less current draw per string) and the second bank will add to the total capacity that might just help you to not pull the battery's down to 48 volt. This is just my opinion. maybe I am looking at this wrong, but splitting the bank seems a bit risky to me...

If not, then you can still put them in parallel during discharge (each string will contribute according to its capacity), but you have to separate them when you recharge to avoid the problem where the smaller string is overcharged and the larger one is undercharged.
