Clivevan Posted February 15, 2021 Posted February 15, 2021 Hi All Recently installed 2xPylontech batteries (2.4 plus 2.4) - previous lead acids were fried. All works perfectly but once batteries read 100% the system seems to rapidly alternate between drawing off the battery and then REcharging to 100%. This is no good for the system or battery. (Or me - frying lead acids left their mark) I attach screenshots of the symptoms and my current settings. It is a setting problem. Somehow it does not float once charged. Quote
Clivevan Posted February 15, 2021 Author Posted February 15, 2021 sorry the other screenshot is too large - how do I attach?? Quote
Clivevan Posted February 15, 2021 Author Posted February 15, 2021 sorry this one is better - still cannot upload the settings Quote
Clivevan Posted February 15, 2021 Author Posted February 15, 2021 You will also notice that the system no longer runs off solar - now it is discharging the battery until who knows when and in between the sun is happily wasting its rays away. Quote
wolfandy Posted February 15, 2021 Posted February 15, 2021 Hi @Clivevan First off, congrats on your new Pylons Did you also purchase the Pylons comms cable for ICC? So that you can connect ICC to your Pylons and read the BMS data? It is not the cable that comes with the Pylons, but something that you need to buy from ICC. If not, then I would highly recommend it - because then you can get around having to use voltage readings and can do the change based on SOC as per the Pylon BMS (significantly more accurate) 1 hour ago, Clivevan said: All works perfectly but once batteries read 100% the system seems to rapidly alternate between drawing off the battery and then REcharging to 100%. This is no good for the system or battery. (Or me - frying lead acids left their mark) Briefly drawing from your batteries is normal. This is due to the fact that when your load increases, your MPPT simply cannot adjust output accordingly that quickly - and hence your inverter will draw from the batteries to make up the shortfall. To my understanding, this will not hurt your batteries. I am having a cloudy day, so my charts are all over the place - but you will see that I also briefly draw from the batteries regularly 1 hour ago, Clivevan said: It is a setting problem. I would suggest making the following changes: Bulk: 52.5V Float: 51.8V 46 minutes ago, Clivevan said: You will also notice that the system no longer runs off solar - now it is discharging the battery until who knows when and in between the sun is happily wasting its rays away Could you please post a screenshot of your Graphs -> Battery Trends charts? That will help better understand what is happening with your batteries And maybe also the Settings -> Batteries tab please Coulomb 1 Quote
Clivevan Posted February 15, 2021 Author Posted February 15, 2021 Thanks again for all your help. Did not want to bother you again. 1. Yes I got the ICC cable. I think it is set up correctly. Jaco installed but he is on the road and cannot help right now. He also needs access to ICC and I had no response yet from the on how to grant him access. 2. I understand that sometimes the battery helps out if the solar is insufficient but mine is tripping one way then the other as if bezerk. 3. I attach further screenshots. The battery is now as it was - I reset it somewhat to test but it had no influence. I notice that the solar has now started again. 4. I made the changes to float and bulk. only 1 screenshot permitted Quote
Clivevan Posted February 15, 2021 Author Posted February 15, 2021 Now ICC has failed - no access to my data: "VNC Server is not currently listening for Cloud connections." What does this mean?? Quote

What does this mean?? This means that your Pi had a wifi connection problem and the VNC server that is running on it was not able to connect to the internet. Usually it works again after a few minutes - unless your Pi has completely lost wifi connection VNC is the software that allows you to remotely access your Pi (from your computer, tablet, phone, etc.) instead of having to directly controlling the Pi through a screen and mouse/keyboard plugged into it. It has nothing to do with ICC Quote
Clivevan Posted February 15, 2021 Author Posted February 15, 2021 OK well Andy phoned me and we sorted out the settings but I think the Axpert is on the blink. It has now tripped with Fault 3 - "battery overcharge". I think I need Jaco back to have a look. Quote
