Greatwhite got a reaction from gimme_power in 2-3kw battery charger for charging 48v batteries with 5kw generatorIronically my inverters (Sunsynk) can support a genset when stand alone, but once paralleled present some problems. Their recommendation is to buy another invert (smaller in my case) to run as an independent charger. but dropping R20k+ for a 'charger' that will have perhaps a 1% annual duty cycle makes little sense
I'm not an expert on what type of chargers are available, but I'm looking to charge 4 off BSL 6.4kWh batteries.
To my mind, the advantage of having an independent charger is that load stays at say 3kw which is more optimal for the generator rather than the genset ramping up and down with house load with the associated frequency issues a small generator has with change of load. The batteries then act as a buffer and the inverters on the 'other side' of the batteries deal with load fluctuations as normal.

Greatwhite got a reaction from Petsvo in Sunsynk 5kw Inverter and 2 x MPPTI have to ask another question: where did the 450v value come from? Per the link I posted MPPT limit is 425v and max DC is 500v. @WannabeSolarSparky posted the current rating per MMPT has been raised to 13A (have you got a published datasheet for that?), on that basis, has the MPPT voltage been raised too and do you have this current/latest firmware? (don't assume your new unit has the latest firmware)
I personally would not take a chance on current - why publish a max value if you can exceed it? At least contact the chaps and Sunsynk before you make an expensive mistake. Bear in mind current is often limited by the size of the contacts. conductors, etc i.e. hardware.

Greatwhite got a reaction from Marv in Seeking advice on 3-phase inverters/UPS'sKind of a silly situation - Inverter (VSD) being driven by another inverter - if there was more demand, there might be an integrated solution that would make more sense - grid tied inverter with variable frequency output.
Anyway, my actual reason for responding - just cautionary note @Marv . You might be aware if this already, but if you have cause to deal with fans (I assume by 'air movement' you mean a fan of some sort) in future - especially bigger units, they are often high inertia machines and have longish run up times the startup current spike at 6-7x full load amps is accordingly long - this is particularly true of larger, slower running fans. i.e. they are under high mechanical load start.
Obviously the above goes away with a VSD, I've seen a number of folk bitten with DOL starts on fans.

Greatwhite got a reaction from TimCam in Hello from another SunsynkerThanks @TimCam
Setup as requested:
2x 8kw SunSynk Inverters
18x 545w panels in 2 strings of 9. One string to each inverter (one string NE facing, the other NW facing)
4x 6.4kWh BSL batteries
Provisioning for the remaining MPPT on each inverter is in place to add extra panels later

Greatwhite got a reaction from Piper in Hello from another SunsynkerGreetings All - as seems customary on many forums, an introduction:
I got a Sunsynk based system installed a few months back - I'm probably passed the 'know just enough to be dangerous' stage, but here learn and perhaps give a little back if I can. I have an engineering background, so most of the concepts I've come across so far aren't too alien to me and been interested in some of the discussion I have read on this forum before joining both post and prior to investing a solar system.
