  2. I know on a parallel setup the aux input cannot be used on one inverter only. Is there a reason you can't put the generator onto both? And limit each to take off half the capacity of the genset?

  4. Can a smallish invertor generator be used with a Sunsynk Invertor? On one of the Sunsynk youtube vids they talk about generator application/integration and suggest a generator with double the rating of the inverter. Reason given is frequency variation as a result of load variation which makes sense. Since 'stashing' a 'little' 16kw genset in my yard is not feasible both from a financial or space/location point of view and since my average day time and evening power use is probably not more than 2kw, for which a 16kw would be grossly oversized and inefficient and since, as I understand it, an inverter generator doesn't suffer frequency issues, could say a 4kw unit be used - limiting the generator input to say 3kw? Having answered that, when load is lower than the envisaged 3kw can the excess be sent to charge the batteries? i.e. keep load constant and a reasonably high but sustainable % of max genset power so that efficiency is decent. And having answered that, could the same logic be applied to 2 Sunsynk inverters running in parallel? i.e. set a limit of say 1.5kw (half 3kw above) on each inverters and share the input from the genset. (The Sunsynk training vids make it clear you can't use the generator input on one inverter only when you have paralleled units)

  6. I agree with @___ There isn't really enough capacity even in newer PoE stds for powering household requirements. Not something I would want to be pioneering with but someone has to be brave and and give it a go. That is not to say it doesn't have its place though with low power devises like LED lighting. @mmacleod I assume you are looking to use all the 'smart' features/power management? Otherwise it seems a very big investment to make for little return? FWIW, I used a TPLink splitter to pull power off my PoE NVR to power some Infrared illuminators (basically 10w flood lights operating in the infrared range of my cameras). Activated by a day/night sensor. Parts all bought on takealot except the illuminators that I got from Communica (were supposedly in stock, but ended up having to wait for them to import more stock). Hardly the scale you are looking for but it works and splitters are the older 802.3af std

  8. I have to ask another question: where did the 450v value come from? Per the link I posted MPPT limit is 425v and max DC is 500v. @WannabeSolarSparky posted the current rating per MMPT has been raised to 13A (have you got a published datasheet for that?), on that basis, has the MPPT voltage been raised too and do you have this current/latest firmware? (don't assume your new unit has the latest firmware) I personally would not take a chance on current - why publish a max value if you can exceed it? At least contact the chaps and Sunsynk before you make an expensive mistake. Bear in mind current is often limited by the size of the contacts. conductors, etc i.e. hardware.
  9. The voltage it per MPPT. However, I think I see a problem - If I am not mistaken, your peak current on your MPPTs for the 5kW Sunsynk is 11A (https://www.sunsynk.org/5kw-hybrid-inverter). peak current of the panels is nearly 14A (https://www.jinkosolar.com/uploads/5ff587a0/JKM530-550M-72HL4-(V)-F1-EN.pdf)
  10. I found some stuff from China that is a nominal 48v battery charger designed for charging LiFePo batteries which I am mulling over - about R3k. It even has CANBUS which would be great if it could be integrated to the CANBUS on the inverters & batteries, but according to a mate of mine that deals with CAN, it can be a minefield, so am contemplating just using the ATS trigger on the inverted to simply switch on/off the unit at the lower and upper thresholds. Manual change over between grid and generator will still present a problem, I think, since since the generators ability to reliably maintain 50Hz with load fluctuations will still exist. Two x 8kW inverters in parallel. I believe you are probably correct and something I considered, but: 1. I'm not sure this is something I could ask the wife or kids to do if I'm not there. 2. The smallish (+/-4.5kW actual) power of the genset, still presents the 50Hz synchronization issue as loads fluctuate.
  11. I was also told you can mix the 5.1 and 6.4 kwh BSL batteries, but I've not see it in writing anywhere from BSL.suggest you email them and confirm. Unless your power usage is really minimal, 2x 5.1 will still get fully utilised. The other advantage is that if by some turn of bad luck a battery develops a fault, you least still have the other battery. Lastly, the 8kwh must be back breakingly heavy if you are racking yourself. If the 1C rating is important to you, just check thar the 8.2kwh actually is rated 1C. My 6.4kwh BSL batteries are, according to the datasheet I have only rated at 90A, whereas the 5.1kwh is rated at 100A.... I looked for a datasheet for the 8.2kwh BSL, but couldn't find one
  12. Generally not so simple. Google it a bit, but in short, synchronization and harmonics can both cause problems, particularly if you are looking to use a small 2pole (3000rpm) genset.
