Islander reacted to Scorp007 in East facing panels, west facing panels, or more north facing panels? The key point is within limits. It's all OK to say over panel but adhere to each manufacturers Isc of the panels. Those advisors saying go over the maximum will not help you if your MPPT pops.
Some inverters that did not provide the Isc spec for panels are now including it in their specs. My Solis will immediately switch off if you exceed the design and specs maximum current. They allow up to 20% on the rating.

The VOC needs to be within the limits.
Oversizing on panels within limits is not an issue as long as the voltage is limited. The Inverter will clip the Amps within limits. What those limits are is anybody's guess.

Islander reacted to Antonio de Sa in East facing panels, west facing panels, or more north facing panels?@Islander the monitoring software I use is custom made by my son, I'm BC "before computers." all I know is that he used Modbus protocol to interrogate the inverters and the SEPLOS BMS on the battery, I can see everything on both inverters and my battery.
Attached Check my battery monitoring system.
There is only one thing I don't like about the seplos BMS is the fact that counts one cycle every time SOC drops below 80% I very seldom use my battery bellow 35%. Yet it counts a cycle every day.
Regarding you other point as far as I know the inverter will clip the current once it reaches its max. what you should never exceed is the rating DC voltage as per your inverter specifications, that will fry your inverter,

Islander got a reaction from AndrewJdc in East facing panels, west facing panels, or more north facing panels?I have been really impressed with solarways prices for everything I have bought from them, must say. I haven't looked into if the AC port could be used for a wind turbine, I know the voltages it accepts are in a range and not just straight 220-230 but I am not looking into a wind turbine right now. Did a bit of research into it and it looked like it would be quite expensive, and I haven't finished with my solar setup. So I figured I would just get my solar system to where I want it then further investigate adding a wind turbine. So right now its only the 2 sources, solar, and my backup generator.
Correct. This is my current plan, feel it would make the most sense for me right now.
This is also my thinking. If one were to pack up for some or other reason, I still have a 5kw inverter to fall back on. That, and they are very competitively priced.
This is concerning. I thought it was as simple as making sure firmware models matched. Any idea how I could find out which model I already have vs which model I would purchase?

Yours being 2 Inverters in parallel.
My system with a single inverter and 2 parallel strings combined having ~26A it regularly clips at 22A.
With the original Firmware it topped out at around 5000Wp under ideal conditions and full load with battery charging.
Now it gets up to 5800Wp with the 22A max.
Ideally I would want to parallel a second Inverter and feed each string into it's own Inverter. Anyone that still has an original version? Lets talk.😉

Islander reacted to Antonio de Sa in East facing panels, west facing panels, or more north facing panels?@zsde the highest current that I've seen my PV producing was just over 10 Amps, so there will be no benefit for me to flash the new soft. Thanks for the reply. Check now cloud edge just over 8 Amps.

No need to do it if all is working.
The original 5000ES with the 04X. series firmware had a 18A max MPPT which they then changed to 22A with the very last Firmware. So depending on your panel config you can gain 4A from the PV.
The later versions with firmware 06X. and 11X have the 22A MPPT with their firmwares out of the box as I understand it.

Islander reacted to Antonio de Sa in East facing panels, west facing panels, or more north facing panels?@Islander I'm aware of newer soft versions however, I'm pretty satisfied with mine, I will not upgrade my inverters, as you said one never knows what can happen.
Check my system performance so far this morning. I love it. Nothing wrong with Growatt inverters.

Islander reacted to Crazy Kaktus in East facing panels, west facing panels, or more north facing panels?I live in East London and have a similar scenario. I get morning sun one side of the house and after noon sun on the other. I have 5 x 545W mono panels on one end and 5 on the other. With the LuxPower 5Kva unit I get about 7 to 9000 kWh from 9 am to 4 pm. Those are my peak hours. But to be honest my 2 x lithium batteries are fully charged by 11am and then I just run on solar all day. Basically off the grid

I found this international site, there might be a shop locally I couldn't find any with a quick search.

Islander got a reaction from Off Grid Farmer in East facing panels, west facing panels, or more north facing panels?Hi all,
I'm currently budgeting to upgrade my solar system for my off grid setup at home. My winter PV production has not been as great as my summer production, which I'm not surprised by.
I do, however, want to increase the size of my solar array. What I want to know is, is there a general consensus on whether or not East facing "morning" panels or west facing "evening" panels are worth it? Or would it just make more sense to add another string of north facing panels?
I'm currently running a Growatt SPF5000ES, with a Felicity solar 12.5kwh lithium battery, and 1 string of 8 Canadian Solar 600W panels in series. Noticing my morning and evening production has taken a knock this winter and not sure if I should prioritise another string of 8 north facing panels, or if I should look at 4 panels facing east and 4 panels facing west. Very keen to hear what the community feels is best and most efficient/practical. Thanks in advance!

If you got space North facing is the most effiecient. What is your roof direction facing east and west( true direction use a compass) If direction east is môre north/east you can consider same with west. East or West you loose 15% efficiency compared to North facing.

Islander got a reaction from zsde in Felicity Solar LPBF48250 PV Wake up lineWas not aware of the Grade B cells - seems my research was not thorough enough. In any case, followed the instructions from @zsde and I seem to have the inverter and battery communicating now. Will continue to post updates regarding the installation for anyone in my situation in the future. My first time attempting anything like this. I decided to DIY when the quote to install only my solar panels (8 X Canadian solar 600W) was around R27,000. So this has been quite the learning experience.

Select Li battery at parameter 05 and set the parameter 36 (protocol) to 04.
Battery dip switches: 1 and 5 ON.
Network cable: pins 1 and 2 from the inverter side to be connected to 5 and 6 at battery side.
