  1. Awesome thanks everyone
  2. Hi A while ago I got a 8kw hybrid inverter. I currently have several 575W panels on order. From this page https://www.sunsynk.org/8kw-hybrid-inverter Its says the Solar Input: Max power input is 10400W 18 panels x 575W = 10,350W Does that mean that 18 panels are max that I can handle with this inverter right?
  3. Thanks will definitly check it out
  4. Hi everybody So I finally got my Sunsynk up and running. I got the wifi dongle with it, its set up up and the data is pulling through. I am still figuring out the interface but at this point it seems extremly limited. My impression was that you could do anything on it that you can do on the screen itself. I know you can somehow get more permissions, is that something I should do? My question is how do you guys manage and monitor your Inverter, batteries and Solar? I am a Developer so would love to do much more custom things, like API calls to be alterted when it is loadshedding etc. I am busy setting up Home Assistant as well but still in early stages. Do you guys have some good resources to share like a thread or articles? Any general tips and tricks would also be appreciated. (Would also prefer to store data locally and not send it to some dodgy site)
  5. Thanks for the info Yea I dont need more instantaneous power. It is just to last longer in case that the power is down for extended amount of time. 1 - 3 days power outages becoming more common as infrastructure continues to decline in the area.
  6. Will be getting 12 x 550-570 Watt Jinko Panels But still want to know what the max amount of 5.12kWh Sunsynk Batteries I can connect to the inverter before I am forced to get a second one.
  7. I recently got a 8KW Sunsynk inverter and soon they will deliver 2 x 5.12kWh Sunsynk Batteries. If I want to get 2 more batteries in the future can the inveter support it or would I need an additional inverter?
  8. So like many newbies on here I am planning on throwing up some 600W+ panels on my roof. I came across this video in my research From around 2 mins in he says it is about the Watts per square inche. He says the panel with the higher Watt rating is just gonna be bigger and more expensive and that panels that exceed 440 W are typically commercial panels. This video makes it sound like 400W is what you should target. I wanted to get as few large panels as possible but this did make me think. How do you guys appraoching sizing? Starting to think calculating the Watts per square inche and compare that with the cost
  9. lavaland replied to lavaland's topic in Inverters
Thanks guys. Yea it being able to be repared here is big.
  10. I imported a bunch of cells from China (Know someobody that knows how to do this right and build them) 280amph 51.2V Will the Deye vs Sunsynk work with these batteries? Does anybody have any experience?
  11. lavaland posted a topic in Inverters
So I get that Deye manufactures the inverters for SunSynk. Then SunSynk customizes them with a more Westernized interface on the screen. The inside components are the same. Here is my question. At time the SunSynk is R10k plus more expensive. Is the "Westernized interface" really worth R10k? Is there anytingh that the SunSynk can do that the Deye cant? Also read somewhere that SunSynk has app and Deye uses Desktop browser. To be honest I MUCH prefer using Desktop Browser. So basically in ppracticle terms what is the difference? If I buy the Deye and learn the interface can I achiece the exact same thing and is it all english?
  12. @Steve87 Ok but can I see prices and sizes somewhere? I dont see any prices on segensolar
  13. @Steve87 Thanks Steve appreacite the input. Will investigate the Infinisolar.
  14. @SYCPage 12 also shows it with same code SUNSYNK-8K-SG04LP3 https://www.sunsynk.org/_files/ugd/52fa1b_32106885487e4054be6d3606e3367f0d.pdf
  15. @SYC Could you elaborate? I got it here and it says three phase? https://www.solarspot.co.za/product/sunsynk-sun-8kw-three-phase-lv-hybrid-inverter/ @GreenFields Ah I see thanks Was initailly looking at 3 single phases but decided against it. Do you know of any other 3 phase that I should consider?
  16. Hi guys back again. Ok so in the end it looks like it will be best to get a 3 phase inverter as our house is 3 phase and it seems it will be to much effort and cost to convert it over. So I am looking into the 3 phase inverter options and would appreciate some input. I am looking at options between 8kw - 12kw As per my previous thread I would prefer a cheaper inverter and get extra battery and panels but I dont want to buy a complete piece of grabage. So the obvious best and most expensive options are Sunsynk Sun 8kW Three Phase LV Hybrid Inverter R43 929.00 Sunsynk Sun 10kW Three Phase LV Hybrid Inverter R50 204.00 Sunsynk 12kW 3 Phase Hybrid Inverter R60,950 Deye 12KW 3 Phase Hybrid Inverter R53,800 Then the cheaper options are Solis S5 8kW Dual MPPT 3-Phase Grid Tie Inverter R20,884 Solis S5 10.0kW Dual MPPT 3-Phase Grid Tie Inverter R22,145 Solis S5 12.0kW Dual MPPT 3-Phase Grid Tie Inverter R24,483 Solis S5 15.0kW Dual MPPT 3-Phase Grid Tie Inverter R25,993 Cant seem to find local supplier for any other Deye 3 phase. Did i miss any options? Does anybody have experience with they Solis as they seem to be allot cheaper. They also have 5 year standard warranty. The price difference between 8kW and 15kW also seems very low. I also cant seem to find Deye and Sunsynk 8kW or 10kW for 3 phase in local stores. It this point I am thinking either Sunsynk Sun 8kW or Solis S5 12.0kW Please let me know what you think
  17. @LumexClipsal @Scorp007 The Sunsync being overkill comment was not from someone trying to sell me something. I have a few electrical engineers in the family. 2 years ago they put together 5 full solar system for their homes. They basically put it like this. The Sunsync is the Rolls Royce of inverters, unless you want to do very specific things they are overkill and you are better off buying smaller inverter like the mecer and even run 2 in paralel if needed. Then rather spend the extra money on better battery and more panels. So really did not try to sell anything. @Scorp007 I see your point about struggeling and that is the last thing I want. But when I look at threads like this one I see people running a cheaper inverter with little to no problems. That would also mean I can put up allot more panels as R13k is allot better than $30+k and allot less damage if lightning fries it. At this point I am seriously considering the Luxpower and extra panels @Scorp007 do you have any bad expriences with the Luxpower?
  18. I am very interested in the Lux. 2 questions Will it work for 3 phase power? Will it work for any battery?
  19. I live in Pretoria. We used to have an online portal to track our power usage in detail. But then they installed pre paid and now we can only see on the device what KhW we currently have. Is there a way to check more usage detail with pre paid?
  20. Hi guys So I have been doing allot of research and currently this is the plan. 1x Mecer 5kw hybrid inverter 6x Canadian 600W panels And some batteries that I am importing. (I know somebody that is running a similar setup so at least I known the part should work together) The shops all have different titles (some sat hybrid others say 2400w pwm controller) and the main Mecer website does not even list the inverter at all The first place I came across this inverter was https://www.unlimitedsolar.co.za/product/mecer-5kw-hybrid-inverter/ But their price seems steep compared to the other stores They also have very limited detail so no even sure it is the same as on the other stores like https://www.quicktech.co.za/collections/loadshedding/products/mecer-5kw-inverter-2400w-pwm-controller https://www.comx-computers.co.za/SOL-I-AX-5VP-Mecer-Axpert-V-5kW-Pure-Sine-Wave-Inverter-Buy-p-266544.php https://www.comx-computers.co.za/SOL-I-AX-5VP-Mecer-Axpert-V-5kW-Pure-Sine-Wave-Inverter-Buy-p-266544.php Then I came across this stored that says it is discontinued https://www.enway.co.za/axpert-inverter-5kw Thing is if later I wanted to add another 5kw inverter I read on this forum that it needs to be the same model, if that is true then buying a discontinued product seems like a bad idea. So the inverter is really confusing me. Person I spoke to says Synsync is overkill and suggested the Mecer. The fact that it is not even on Mecer site makes me worried. Are there better 5kw future proof alternatives in the same pricerange? Also what is a reputable store with competitive prices as unlimited solar seems to be about a third more expensive (if it is even the same thing)
  21. Thanks for all the replies everybody. So to give some more context. Yes we have been running the Kodak and Giter for quite some time now. For 2 hour load shedding it is fine but when stage 5 - 6 starts it becomes a problem. Recenently to survive 4 hours stretches we could only run 2 computers with CPU set down to 5% and no use of the GPU (dim screens and turn of second monitor). (We also bought a generator recently when the power was down for days and according to electrician the Kodak is not good enough to charge the batteries with the generator) The reason I asking here is We need to improve the time we can survive as we work from home. The power also often dies for an entire day. If we buy another Giter that would solve the issue in the short term but it does not seem futureproof. And when we start adding panels we need to be sure the inverter can handle it as we expand. So do we bite the bullet and just buy a better inverter and start over with a new battery now or do we expand the Kodat + Giter?
  22. Hi everyone I inherited a basic Kodak Solar Off Grid Inverter OG 1.24 and a Giter G2500-24 I asked the electricion if I could buy some extra batteries and throw up a few solar panels to power 3 gaming PCs and network equipment for 6 - 12 hours I want a system where over time I can expand by adding betteries and pannels. I asked my electricion about this and he said that the Kodak I have is a "kak" inverter and that I will need to get a proper invester. He suggeted I buy a SUNSYNK 5KW Inverter A.I says it should be able to power the above with this equipment. Electrician said with the SUNSYNK 5KW Inverter and 4 panels I would be able to power the 3 PCs. Will the Giter battery (that I read somewhere is also "kak") work with the Sunsynk? Will 5KW inverter work for 3 computers with high end GPUs and 3 roof fans and some lights? Is the 5KW enough and what extra would I be able to power before running into issues? Thanks
