DIY Lithium Battery

Build Your Own Lithium Battery

  1. Started by ahmad almawal,

I'm having trouble connecting to EDMS_V1.71.0329. I'll attach a screenshot of the problem. Currently, I'm using this version of EDMS (V_2.01.0801), and it works fine, but I can't access the data file related to the BMS card, for example, the date and parameters. I'll attach a screenshot.

  2. Could someone give me some advice - we use 2X Shoto SDA10-48100 batteries at the moment. We want to add more batteries and note the Shoto SDC10-BOX 5 are much cheaper. Can these be joined (in the circuit) with our existing batteries? What would be the drawbacks and/or advantages. We have a luxpower sna 5k inverter. Thank you so much for your help.

  4. Hi all, long-time lurker, first post in a long while. My current setup: 2× Sunsynk 8kW in parallel, 2× Solar MD SS4144 (14.4kWh each, CAN comms to the master Sunsynk). System works well but I'm hitting minimum SOC most nights and the grid is kicking in. I want to add roughly 30kWh of storage without replacing what I have. The plan: Build a 16S2P pack using 32× EVE LF280K (or MB31 314Ah) cells in a DIY steel frame, with 2× JK 200A active balancer BMS. Wired in dumb parallel at the DC busbar alongside the Solar MD batteries — no CAN comms to the Sunsynk, just the JK BMS protecting the cells independently. Only change on the inverter side is updating battery capacity from ~5…

i want to build 16s10p battery from 32700 6ah lfp 3c cells with 100a bms. i ll use 2p 0.15mm nickel strip. AI says it s not enough for series connection! a-Should i use 2 layers of 0.15mm? (or 1 layer 0.15mm s enough) or 1 layer 0.20mm ? Any comment appreciated. thnx for help.

  6. Started by ahmad almawal,

I have four lithium batteries connected in parallel, each with a capacity of 10 KW The problem is that when the SOS percentage for all four batteries is 100%, the voltage of the four batteries is not equal. Note that the BMS type is JBD

  7. A many of you know already I love data, but sometimes it can be a pain to get data streaming in reliably. There are so many different ways to do it. ESP32 with rs485 ttl, Bluetooth, arduino ttl/rs485, rs232 etc etc the list goes on. Many are very technical and need an understanding of how to program esp devices. I have now found what I think is the simplest way to connect your JKBMS batteries to home assistant. The data flows in very reliably at a decent rate (Almost realtime) and all you need is a simple rs485-usb adapter and the ability to follow some simple step. Data flows nicely into mqtt and exposes a crapton of data entities for you to use all over your HA where ev…

I have used an ESP32 to interface between my battery setup and the SMG-iii-6.2kw, this setup works fine when talking to a solis E1HP over CAN, however when I use the data for my EAsun I am able to get the comms error to go off and the "li" sign to light however the unit refuses to charge my batteries the charging light is flashing yet no energy is being sent to the batteries, it will as much solar as it needs to power any load but refuses to send the excess to the batteries. When I turn the comms off the comms error 19 comes on and the batteries start charging so I'm fairly sure I have the settings in the inverter correct. I suspect my problem is what I'm sending to the I…

  10. Yes, LiFePO4's can possibly be charged up to 3.65V, but this will surely reduce the lifespan of the cells and thus a lower Voltage is advised, usually 3.6V is quoted as maximum, but even this seems a tad high to me, currently I am running up to 3.500V per cell (56.000V for 16S battery) and start balancing at 3.450V, should I go lower yet? What are you running your cells at? and what is your reasoning if it is higher or lower than mine.

  11. Hi guys , .... I am trying to configure a Linux app to gather BMS data from all batteries (JK , Pylontech , Seplos ) and need to configure the V19 JK BMS also to talk RS485 with a Waveshare device. Now ... for the LOVE OF GOD .... Which port is UART1 , which is UART2 and which is UART3 ? I can see I can configure different protocols on diferent UART's but documentation of this BMS sucks and nowhere explained what is what and which port is which but they call all ports UART... This is my "bench" setup and the JK documentation is AWFUL !! So which port is UART1 /2 /3 ? .... im pulling my hair.. :( I know the port I have connected now is RS485 but is it UART1 , 2 , 3 ? or…

im new to this bms n cant find instructions in English. Dont want to see magic smoke again. So step by step a- B- to battery main negative b-B1-b16 to cells' positive. c-B+(leftest balance cable) to battery main positive d-P- n B+ terminal to Load/charger e-Apply charge voltage to wake up BMS is this correct? thnx for help.

  13. I'm considering using a 8-16S 200A JK BMS (https://cellsupplysa.co.za/products/8-16s-200a-jk-bms-w-communication-ports), and hooking it up to a Kodak MKS-IV (OGS 5.6). The inverter doesn't have any native "JK" battery type, but it does have support for Pylontech batteries. Can the JK BMS emulate other protocols, such as Pylontech?

I've been in contact with the supplier quite a few people have used on this forum. They are Donguang Belifine https://x.alibaba.com/B04Trx?ck=minisite Apparently they ship quite often to warehouse in Jhb in about 5 weeks. Ive attached some of their prices below for 48v system. 16x 320 ah Sunwoda for about R17000 with BMS shipping and customs included. im in the garden route area so perhaps if there is someone else interested we could save a few thousand rand on shipping.

  18. A little bit of a strange one buy am looking into getting some cells from Alibaba, will be 16x 3.2v 280A from a well known supplier. Plus Daly bms. The price is significantly lower than the standard Hubble Svolt Dyness etc. I've built my own 12v system 5 years back and its still goigg strong despite a couple sparks. In saying that this feels a little out of my depth and don't want to mess things up. Would someone with diy knowledge be interested in building it of course for a fee? Shipping, sundries etc would be on me of course. Whatever is needed to build it correctly and is safe.

Has anybody done a DIY battery build and used these "small" fire extinguishers. If so I would like to know where you got them and the cost and do they work and should we be using them?

Anyone pulling the trigger on some cells from apexium? Price seems brilliant?

  21. Good day As per the topic, Apexium / Apex is out of business. They fired the lady I used to deal with here in South Africa, and their e-mail's address for Apexmall & Apexiumtech goes unanswered. Previously I was able to contact her for help and she will contact the necessary engineers and provide feedback. I bought an Apex 48V 200A BMS, 16 months ago, with 16s 280AH Eve LifePo4. Due to "life happening", I was only able to connect it last week. As per the Apex instruction sheet, it reads, that you have to flash the firmware of the unit to the version provided. I did this, and it prompted "Successfully". However, afterwards I'm unable to connect to the BMS via Serial…

Hey all Since the original QR scanner app just dissappeared from the playstore, the only way to find it was via unsecure sources. I decided to create a very simplistic/lightweight scanner/verifier. One thing I added was a scan count, since these QR codes aren't signed by any authority, duplicating the code or reusing is pretty common. So, by scanning a QR, or entering it manually, it will tell you if it has been used before. The playstore version is under reveiew, but you can use it straight from the mobile friendly version here: https://cell-verify.com/

  24. The guys over at lithium-cells have some well priced cells for all you diy'ers :) https://lithium-cells.co.za/detail/429385 and a jkbms will get you a decent 15kwh battery for under r10k per 100AH :) The Hithium cells are good quality go see andy's reviews on them :) They also have EVE cells though a bit more expensive.

Hi all. I've got a Luxpower 5Kw SNA inverter with a Shoto Battery installed since last year. Yesterday there was a thunderstorm, and at one point during a sharp bolt of thunder the Inverter dripped at the DB board. I switched it back on and it's still working fine with solar but its saying battery communication failure. Any idea what the issue could be ?
