This started as a bit of an experiment. I needed the cheapest 10kW upgrade I could lay my hands on, and found these: https://www.communica.co.za/products/batt-12-8v200-chp I then went deep down a rabbit hole writing Bluetooth drivers to communicate with these batteries, and my existing Daly set up. Also to manage series and parallel banks. And to spit out Pylon compatible CAN messages to safely manage the combined packs through the inverter. https://github.com/justinschoeman/BLE_Bat So far, everything seems to be working, and all the basics are testing well. Just be very aware that when paralleling dissimilar packs like these, the best pack will …

Hi all My portable power supply recently gave up the ghost and instead of throwing everything away I thought I would turn it into a diy project. And I would appreciate some advice. Please keep in mind that I am a complete novice... I’m pretty sure it was one (or more) of the cells in the battery pack that failed and it looks like the bms is gone as well. So my first questions are as follows: 1. Is it worth keeping the remaining working parts for a diy build 2. Is it possible to replace the BMS with something that can be sourced locally? 3. Can I change the battery type to LiFePo4 4. Is it possible to create a ‘removeable’ battery p…

Good day all, Please advise on which section of the forum I should post this on. I am making a second battery to fit in a very specific space in my vehicle. Only 99% sure that it will all work out, but anyone who wants to come along for the ride is welcome. Constructive criticism very welcome, and indeed I will be looking to others who may be able to assist with final testing and with some minor machining of the plastic casing parts. To those who just love the sound of their own voices please move on to another post. 4 x 105 AH cells BMS from Overkill 120 AH Engineering plastic from DEMS (Polypropylene) Other parts we will make up as we go along and on advice …

Hello, My solar installation is working with battery for almost 6 months The configuration is : - 16s prismatic LFP of 200Ah connected in serial, - Daly BMS 250A and for now, 2 active balancer - Daly smart active balancer (1A - 20mV drift) -Neey 4th generation active balancer (4A - 1mV drift) Currently, active balancers are always active, with integrated solar inverter charger (Float 53,6V and Bulk 55,2V), it's working but the main issue is when battery is unused, they slowly drain the battery and BMS SOC become quickly innacurate because active balancer discharge is not followed by BMS So I want to properly configure …

Good day all I have been doing a lot of research and am very new and green to the whole concept so any help and assistance would be appreciated. Somewhere in these threads i saw "wanna be sparky" I think was the user name give advise on a 16s battery build to sunsynk inverter. I have two 48 v battery packs that are eve 3,2 v 105 a/h 16s however the supplier who i got cells from cannot give me the same composition cells which both top charge and balance to 3.42 v per cell when in parallel so the issue would be one set of cells having a top balance of 3,26 and the other 3.42 this when connected in parallel to inverter would mean having top and bottom balance…

Hey all, So was speaking to a friend about me going the route of a DIY lithium battery and we got talking about fire suppression (His Hubbles apparently have built in fire suppression), I never knew the Hubbles had this and am wondering how common this is with lithium batteries often sold for solar use? Also any idea how effective this would actually be in the event of a fire inside the battery? Then the next thing is insurance, any idea whether insurance would cover a DIY battery or if something were to go wrong and a fire broke out because of a DIY battery? Just looking for a bit of info and feedback from those who have perhaps alread…

I want to get a battery backup for my PC (one of those inverter trolleys) but it’s quite expensive and I thought “hey why not do it yourself?” So now I’m just wondering if you guys know where to get LifePo4 cells in South Africa. Looking for 3.2V 100Ah or somewhere around there. Also I can’t seem to find copper bus bars to connect the batteries in series.

Good day all The only lifepo4 cells it seems to be found in the country currently is some 55ah cylindrical cells. I have drawn up a picture of a 12V, 110ah battery bank by connecting the cells first in parallel and then in series. My question is, would it matter if the adjoining modules are connected via busbar on only one side as in the picture? Should it rather be connected on both negative terminals to both positive terminals of the next module, or should I drill a hole in the middle of the busbar to try to keep resistance the same to each terminal?

I am preparing a 24S 5P LiFePO4 battery pack for my e-moped. I bought 200pcs 32700 cylindrical cells to use 120 of them for this. I will not use 10 of them because of the capacity and IR. (The cells are very bad even though they are brand-new) I measured the capacity(3,65>2,6@3A) of the batteries, Internal Resistance (AC 1Khz) and capacity loss in 1 month [full charge>1 month later, full charge=delta C](not SoH). web based Repakr, which works online, uses a single variable (C). Nemo@secondlifestorage prepared excel based RepakR. This document can deploy using both C and IR. (unfortunately I can't use C-lost here ) 1-Is there a reason why the dev-from av…

Hey all, So I am curious to see what you have done in terms of an enclosure for your DIY batteries. If you could, please do share and post some pictures! The enclosure side of DIY batteries is something I do not see discussed much but certainly something to consider if one is interested in going the DIY route.

Does anyone know what the default WiFi password is for an Ouco Lithium battery? I press the reset button for 7 seconds and the WiFi comes up but them asks for a password. The manual doesn't mention a password. Apparently they are the same as CFE batteries?

Good evening Powerites, Thanks Jason for the timely powerwall topic. It was funny to see a load shedding thread on another forum descend to a bragging contest of "my solar system is bigger than yours... 😉 I cannot compete with Leszek or Delphinus's workmanship but while I can get 18650 Lithium-Ion cells for (almost) free I will keep on using them for our houses on the farm. KISS is my motto. Herewith photos of one of my 14S powerwalls, this one currently 100P . Don't laugh, it works fine, although I have to occasionally don my BMS hat and use that thing with the 2x24V bulbs to check strings under load to diagnose and replace faulty cells. My reason for…

So here it goes. So many ppl are getting into the DIY Lithium battery game. So what makes a lithium battery cell quality or not so quality. For a start it must test above its rated capacity if bought from a trusted source. How to test? Using the ZKE tech Battery load tester. I have purchased & shipped cells from quality suppliers & have not been disappointed yet. All have tested above specification on delivery & the cells have delivered close to 8MW of energy through the last year & they still doing very good duty in the field. These cells were CALB & EVE manufactured Grade A & tested to be the real deal. The batches were 100ah, 120ah &…

Hi Everyone, I am wanting to buy cells from Alibaba and it's proving difficult to know who to trust. Looking for prismatic cells around 300Ah. Eve sounds good, but also to know which suppliers can be trusted if they say they are selling Eve. Does anyone here recommend a supplier please?

So I have been tasked with the repair & salvage of this Hoppecke 8kWh Lithium battery. I thought I would post this entire project as it has unfolded. The battery unfortunately has a nasty fault & the BMS is not very programmable unless you are the agents. So began the project of battery cell capacity testing & BMS retrofit to get some power restored & this battery cycling again.

Don't we just all wish we had the capital to do our own as well? "This is a follow up to yesterday's video about top balancing. After 24 hours most of the energy has been transferred from one battery into the next. The capacity at cut off was 264AH. It cut off when the first cell reached 2.8 volts. I am now finishing the top balance with grid power and recharging the donor battery to 80% SOC to hold until the system is assembled and commissioned. Three down and 13 to go!"

Hi all, I commissioned a 24V 120Ah DIY lifepo4 battery. There was a short circuit when the relay of the BMS made contact with the cells and now the charge switches keeps on switching on and off when the inverter is connected. Could it be that the relay is malfunctioning or there's still hope for the this BMS? How can I resolve this issue?
